When Life Slows Down: Finding Calm After Chaos

in Daily Blog4 days ago
Hello Hivers. I hope you are all doing well today. For this blog I just want to share with you how my random Friday went and the little things that happened throughout the day. Life has been quite unpredictable lately because of everything that has been happening. Still, I try my best to stay positive and appreciate the simple moments that bring comfort.

Since the earthquake struck our town in San Remigio, the aftershocks have been happening again and again. So my mother decided to let my siblings and I stay in the city with my aunt for our safety. I felt sad about that decision because my mother and father stayed behind to look after our house. I miss them so much, but I understand that someone needs to stay and check on our home. We talk every day through video calls so I can see how they are doing. According to them, the aftershocks are becoming weaker. Some are still strong but not like before. I continue to pray and hope that everything will soon be over so that we can all return to our normal life.

My aunt came early in the morning to pick us up. We were surprised when we heard her car at the gate because it was still early. She decided to fetch us instead of letting us ride a bus since we were still afraid of aftershocks that might happen while traveling. The trip usually takes around three hours by car, but that day it took almost five hours because of the heavy traffic. There were so many vehicles on the road because relief goods were being sent to the northern part of Cebu. Even though it took a long time, we arrived safely at noon. We thanked God for keeping us safe during the whole trip.

Before going home, my aunt brought us to the grocery store to buy food and other necessities. Since she came so early, we did not have time to prepare ourselves. I ended up walking around the store in my pajamas without even washing my face. At first, I felt embarrassed, but later on I realized that no one cared. Everyone was too busy doing their own shopping. I just laughed at myself and continued helping my aunt with the groceries.

While we were in line at the counter, I noticed many people buying canned goods, noodles, and bottled water. I realized that they were probably going to donate those things to the earthquake victims. Seeing that made my heart feel warm. Even though the earthquake happened almost two weeks ago and relief operations had already started, people still continued to help. It was amazing to see how generous and kind people could be in times of need.

After finishing at the grocery, we went straight home to have lunch because we were already hungry. My aunt cooked luncheon meat which is one of my favorite. I also made my favorite drink, chocomalt with milk. It is so delicious and comforting. You guys should try it too. It has been my go to drink whenever I want something sweet and warm.

After lunch, I went to my aunt’s room to play with her dogs. I missed them so much because the last time I visited was in July, which means it had been three months since they last saw me. My siblings and I played with them for a while. It was fun and relaxing. While playing, I noticed a fresh flower on my aunt’s office table. It looked so beautiful and smelled really nice. I felt a bit excited because I have always wanted to receive fresh flowers. But I actually prefer being gifted with food or small things that I can keep since I am also a sentimental person.

A few hours later, I went downstairs to take a shower and noticed that it was raining outside. The sound of the rain made me think of my parents, so I called them right away. I was relieved when they told me that it was not raining in San Remigio at that time. After the call, I stayed near the window for a few minutes just listening to the rain. The sound of raindrops has always been comforting to me. It feels peaceful and relaxing. Watching the rain fall made me forget all my worries for a while.

That was how my day went. It was not filled with anything exciting or grand, but it was a day that reminded me to be thankful for safety, family, and peace. Even after everything that happened, there are still moments that make me smile. I realized that no matter how hard life gets, there will always be reasons to be grateful. Thank you so much for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed it, and I look forward to sharing more of my simple stories with you next time.
