Something You Can Never Do

in Hive Reachout20 days ago
There are certain things I’ve come to realize I can never do, not out of pride or fear, but from a place of self-awareness, boundaries, and understanding of who I am.

One of them is this: I can never take on the full responsibility of a father to a girlfriend. Paying someone’s school fees, house rent, fueling her generator, and covering other major expenses that only a father or husband should be responsible for, I simply can’t do it. Not because I’m selfish or stingy, but because I’ve seen how ungrateful the world can be. Imagine taking someone from the bottom, lifting her from "trash to grace", only for her to one day turn around and tell me, “I’m sorry, I’ve found someone else.” Maybe someone who fits her "class." That would be betrayal at its peak. A girlfriend is not a wife, and I won’t carry responsibilities that aren’t mine to bear.

Another thing I know I can never do is fly, not because I don’t desire to soar high in life, but because physically, I am not a machine, a bird, or an airplane. I’m not powered by fuel, wings, or any mechanical force. Unless there's some supernatural intervention or future technology that allows humans to fly like eagles, then flying through the air unaided will remain one of those things I can never do.

Breathing under water is another limitation. As much as I respect marine life and the mysteries of the ocean, I’m not a fish or an aquatic creature. I don’t have gills. I wasn’t made to live or survive beneath the surface of water. Yes, I’ve heard of some remote tribes, like the ones in the North-Western parts of Yemen or even certain African communities like the Jukun people, who can stay under water for long periods while hunting or fishing. Their abilities are remarkable, and maybe even legendary, but I know for sure that I wasn’t built for that kind of life.

I couldn't afford to take up things that doesn't belong to me, never in my entire life

These aren’t just random limitations, they are truths that shape my values and decisions. Knowing what I can and cannot do helps me walk wisely, love sincerely, and give responsibly. Life becomes clearer when you define your boundaries and embrace your truth.

Lol, it's not wise to take on fatherly duties for a girlfriend though because sometimes she will just be with you cos of what she stands to gain and would leave when it is convenient.

Funny how relationships is slowly becoming a contract. Truthfully, I also believe both parties shouldn't give husband or wife's duty to a boyfriend or girlfriend. What you can't give, don't expect. Things you can't do are quite relatable. Thanks for sharing.

You’ve spoken real sense here. Defining what you can never do is not weakness, but wisdom.

A lot of people fall into unnecessary pain because they take on responsibilities that aren’t theirs to carry. Setting boundaries doesn’t mean you don’t care, it simply means you understand your worth and value.

Thank you for sharing this, it's really helpful 😊
