The sophisticated world of architecture and design needs creative minds! However, as much as the special breed of professionals involved in these ventures have been constantly encouraged to think outside the box, would they merely settle for the mundane? What if commissions don't require design limitations?

Welcome to the maiden issue of A+DPOST, the official magazine of the Architecture+Design Community on the Hive Blockchain. Within its colorful pages, we showcase short yet snappy architecture and design content from around the world celebrating feature stories, news articles, opinion essays, literary and journalistic publications, narrative content, plus other interesting stuff from various contributing authors of our vibrant tribe.

With a different defining theme focused for every published periodical, we are truly optimistic that avid readers from all walks of life, most importantly our industry enthusiasts, would savor our valuable and timely topics for their ultimate education, inspiration, leisure, and entertainment. Similar to our community's main categories, our magazine will highlight Architecture, Interior Design, Furniture Design, Urban Design, and Environmental Design.

With a plethora of built environments sprouting on almost every corner of the globe, we are seldom caught off-guard by absurd, ridiculous, plus strange-looking buildings. As intimidating as they are, they provoke us to scratch our heads in their presence and say "It is even possible to construct those projects"?

World-renowned Architects like Daniel Libeskind, Frank Gehry, and Zaha Hadid have challenged the limits of creativity with their out-of-this-world masterpieces. Their striking designs may not appeal to everyone, (of course they had strong critics too!), but their outstanding creations seem to have defied gravity, questioned construction technologies, and advanced creative thinking to epic proportions!

Take Hangar-7 in Salzburg for instance. Does that work's insane geometry drop your jaw and direct you to stare at its details intensely?

Before enrolling in architecture school and venturing outside my home country for professional exposure. I was extremely critical of fabricated edifices, especially the types that I considered abnormal. Perhaps being skeptical of their possibilities was the key reason why I preferred more conventional infrastructures.

However, as the years passed, I learned to admire and appreciate newer architectural trends. Although some of these projects didn't immediately catch my attention, they made me wonder in a positive manner. Their conceptual principles invited me to "pick the brains" of their original creators and discover why they have proposed such interesting design solutions. The mantra "Nothing is impossible if you simply believe" was my guiding light.

By being genuinely open-minded, I transformed my unexpected encounters with unusual architecture into valuable learning curves, pretending to be a playful kid again by absorbing novel realities without suddenly reacting senselessly. Who doesn't want to feed their hungry curiosity, anyway?

In this magazine's inaugural edition, our Contributing Authors have shared their honest opinions, insights, and perspectives about the crazy architecture they've experienced. Read their thought processes, respect their personal views, and feel free to converse with them in the comments below.

More power to the Architecture+Design Community!

Sincerely,

The Peculiar Buildings of Buenos Aires in Argentina: How Daring Are They?

Strange Architecture in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Photo: © DIMAS CASTILLO @dimascastillo90

Architecture as a fundamental part of urbanism is present in very diverse and sometimes even very crazy or strange ways, which makes it more attractive to the view of residents and tourists.

In the autonomous city of Buenos Aires, there are these types of architecture that capture the attention of passers-by. We are going to experience three of them, mentioning in the first instance that these are peculiar and strange buildings, but with profound and interesting meanings. We could define them as shocking if you will.

Escape Monument

It is a monument that is located in the Costanera Norte of the city of Buenos Aires, situated in a park called Memory Park, a work by the American artist Dennis Allan Oppenheim.

DIMAS CASTILLO - VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1 - PHOTO 1.jpg

With an interesting symmetry that symbolizes the clandestine prisons during the period of dictatorship in the country, the landmark expresses freedom instead of confinement. It was built between 1999 and 2001.

Rental Building

It is a building that plays a little with the optical illusion of having been ironed or somehow sliced very thinly, In contrast, the reality is that it is triangular in shape and looks that way from a certain angle.

DIMAS CASTILLO - VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1 - PHOTO 2.jpg

It is a building located in the neighborhood of Barracas, has a style related to Art Nouveau, and an appearance of Austrian Sezessionsstil. The author of this work is unknown since due to renovations his signature was erased from the building.

Women's Bridge

The famous women's bridge is well known and touristic in the city of Buenos Aires and highlights a cultural and representative meaning of the country. This bridge is located in the neighborhood of Puerto Madero, designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and was inaugurated in 2001.

DIMAS CASTILLO - VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1 - PHOTO 3.jpg

According to its creator, it symbolizes a "couple dancing tango", where the mast
represents the man. This man holds the curvature of the bridge by means of ropes, where the curvature symbolizes the woman.

For me, it is quite a positive impression to admire these marvelous projects with such rarity but with extremely deep or interesting interpretations. Personally, I think that the presence of these types of architecture enriches the city. Ideally, there should be more initiatives for the realization of these works.

The Majestic Pillars of Growth!

A Welcoming Experience at Aerocity, New Delhi, India. Photo: © SAHIBA RANA @sahiba-rana

Rooted at the heart of India and symbolizing growth and development, the imposing pillars of Aerocity stand - landmarking the aesthetical bloom of Delhi.

On a weekend eve with a smooth breeze, while multiple groups of people were entering Aerocity's complex that shared its periphery wall with the airport, I was one of those who were gasping at its crazy infrastructure.

The mastermind's idea of crafting such beautiful elements near the airport and metro needs to be applauded! I always wondered how crazy they looked in photographs, thus my curiosity dragged me out to witness these artforms in person.

Curves and angles are some of the basic rules of craziness in architecture, aren't they? These stunning pillars supporting the airport's bridge were simply built from basic concrete forms. However, defining them with the interesting shapes of crazy curves, including vertical waterfalls and gardens, halted passersby - triggering them to "click-click"!

I discovered myself amidst these creative works - sitting peacefully (stress-free), listening to the waterfall's sound, and enjoying its uncrowded space. Aren't these magnificent pillars perfect examples of biophilia, providing beautiful structures to have a calming effect on your mind?

SAHIBARANA - VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1 - PHOTO 2.jpg
Nature-inspired Architecture of Aerocity in New Delhi, India. Photo: © SAHIBA RANA @sahiba-rana

This complex serves the poshest hotels, finest restaurants, and shopping centers with its fantastic infrastructure. The multiple levels of flooring with a unique canopy made it more appealing. This represents the beauty of the city perfectly and highlights its capacity to hold everyone under its wings.

The flavor of contemporary architecture is prevalent with beautiful landscaping as the icing on the cake. Therefore, this made everyone enjoying within the complex to yell - 'Life is good! The GMR group, responsible for developing Aerocity, outdid themselves.

After having a peaceful surrender to this marvelous infrastructure, I proceeded to enjoy the international cuisine within the adjoining food court.

While draining my mobile's memory with pictures, I found my way to the parking area overlooking my college thesis site, currently being developed by L&T. This made me proud of covering that landmark two years ago, so I started daydreaming about having a project in Aerocity in the near future. (Just Architect's things LOL!)

I felt contented and so will you!

FUN FACTS.png

  • LEGO, the Danish toy manufacturing company that popularized these interlocking plastic bricks for playful people of all ages, used to produce special architectural bricks for the construction of houses. These building products were termed Modulex and were based on perfect cubes since their conception in 1963. The business didn't take off and was later discontinued in the 1970s.

  • The Empire State Building in the city of New York, USA generates more financial revenue from its Observation Decks collected from tourists and visitors as opposed to the rental income gained from its 85 Floors of Office Spaces.

  • Architecture used to be one of the major events in the international Olympic Competition. For the first 4 decades of the modernized Olympic Games, around 151 medals were specially awarded to the fields of music, literature, painting, sculpture, and surprisingly, architecture. The qualification? Every entry must be related to sports.

Hello @soychalbed. Thank you for the beautiful compliment and support! 😀

oh!!! I love this!!! I'm trying to think on what to do for my community (motherhood) I wanted something else not a challenge or initiative and I just saw this and I so want to copy the idea!!! we have a column weekly written by one of our grandmas but this is so much bigger and better.

I would love to have your ok in copying the magazine idea tho I don't to abuse lol and just copy it without your knowledge, let me know please if is ok and we will totally understand if is not =)

Dear @victoriabsb. We are grateful for your sincere compliment! And as much as we are truly appreciative of your admiration for our community magazine, please be aware that it took a huge amount of time, effort, and thought processes, plus the willing involvement, cooperation, and contribution of the creator, mod team, and several of our community authors to realize this collective initiative.

Now, would we desire to simply waste all our hard-earned endeavors by allowing you to copy our work? Isn't copying the ideas of others literally similar to plagiarizing original content? In fact, we are completely surprised as well as disappointed about this request from a community leader and curator in the first place. Aren't we supposed to be practicing ethical behaviors and professional conduct on the Hive blockchain?

If we permitted you to do so, this would definitely trigger unwanted commotion, anger the entire Architecture+Design Community, and would be unfair to all our magazine contributors and respected members.

Hence, our straightforward response? NO, we do not allow you to copy our community magazine. Thank you for your understanding.

Ooh! well I never wanted to disrespect your hard work making this magazine, nor did I want to copy the content (cause our community is not about Architecture or design) or even the way is made (markdown), just the general idea of a magazine.

Aren't we supposed to be practicing ethical behaviors and professional conduct on the Hive blockchain?

Hence why I asked before as I saw it as the ethical thing to do, but I doubt the creators of the Sport Illustrated asked Vogue if they could also make a magazine about a completely different subject, so no, I don't see anything wrong with asking, but I know now your position about it and respect it.
