Imagine that you have acquired a rare sculpture and do not know where it should be. But you are fabulously rich and you can build an entire building to store it. You hire an architect, builders ... then a strange structure called Chapelle is born.

Chapelle consists of two square towers, one of which is "destroyed" to the first tier, connected by a passage located above the arch of a wide passage. The central clock tower is a symbol of an unforgiving time, and a weather vane-cock, as in Protestant churches, is a symbol of the apostle Peter's abdication.

Между собой они связаны переходом (сейчас это скорее всего смотровая площадка), расположенным над аркой широкого проезда. In fact, almost everything here is a visual trick. However, inside there is no longer the statue for which all this was started. I'll tell you about it below. Visually, Chapelle looks like a building with a single space inside in the old Gothic style. Moreover, it was erected like ruins. In fact, there are overlaps and as many as 3 floors inside. Stained-glass windows with colored glass are dummies. The staircase upstairs is a cantilever and does not float in the air.

The building was not destroyed by time but created as a stylization of ruins. There is no visible staircase to the third floor, but at one time masons gathered there. And at the very top, during the Second World War, the Germans set up an observation post. To install anti-aircraft guns on it, part of the roof was destroyed. At the bottom of the Chapelle, the Germans placed their horses. The weathercock was also damaged. These were already real destruction, not props.

На самом деле здесь почти всё является визуальным обманом. Впрочем, внутри уже нет той статуи, ради которой всё это было затеяно. О ней чуть ниже расскажу. Визуально Шапель выглядит как здание с единым пространством внутри в стиле старой готики. На самом деле внутри есть перекрытия и целых 3 этажа. Витражи с цветными стёклами являются муляжами. Лестница наверх является консольной и не парит в воздухе.

Здание не разрушено временем, а создано как стилизация руин. На третий этаж нет видимой лестницы, но в своё время там собирались массоны.. А на самом верху во время Второй Мировой войны немцы устроили наблюдательный пункт. Для установки на нем зенитных орудий была уничтожена часть кровли. В нижней части "Шапели" немцы разместили своих лошадей. Пострадал и флюгель-петух. Это были уже реальные разрушения, а не бутафория.

I have a rather low voice, but in these vaults, it turned into just a rumble and descended from above on you. It is felt physically.

Настоящий витраж здесь тоже только один...везде сплошной обман...впрочем, как и в жизни. Одно могу сказать вполне определённо...акустика здесь сумашедшая. Звук усиливается в несколько раз. Если громко крикнуть, то на вас обрушится гром небесный из вашего собственного голоса. У меня довольно низкий голос, но в этих сводах он превращался в просто в рокот и нисходил сверху на тебя. Он ощущается физически.

This is not the statue for which everything was started. Now there is a sculpture of Adini - that is how the family called Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna, daughter of Nicholas I. A beauty and favorite of the family, she died of tuberculosis a few months after the wedding and the birth of her son. And in the beginning, the Savior stood here.

Это не та статуя, ради которой всё было затеяно. Теперь здесь стоит скульптура Адини - так называли в семье великую княгиню Александру Николаевну, дочь Николая I. Красавица и любимица семьи, она умерла от туберкулеза через несколько месяцев после свадьбы и рождения сына. А вначале здесь стоял Спаситель.

Marble statue of the Savior, presented to Alexander I by his mother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna. This statue stood here for a surprisingly long time. She survived the revolution, the time when part of the Chapelle was given over for housing, survived the Second World War. Now it is in the storerooms of the Hermitage.

There is a legend that the sculptor (J. G. Dannecker) saw the image of Jesus Christ once in a dream, and from that time "day and night this image occupied him to such an extent that he began to think that he was prompted to work by supernatural power." ... After some time (several years), he sculpted this image in marble. However, the sculptor's doubts did not leave. Once he brought a seven-year-old child into the studio and asked him: "What kind of statue is this?" “Savior,” the child replied. The sculptor was happy.

Мраморная статуя Спасителя, подаренная Александру I его матерью, императрицей Марией Федоровной. Эта статуя простояла здесь на удивление долго. Она пережила революцию, время, когда часть Шапели была отдана под жильё, пережила Вторую Мировую войну. Сейчас она находится в запасниках Эрмитажа.

Существует легенда, будто бы скульптор (И. Г. Даннекер) увидел образ Иисуса христа однажды во сне, и с того времени «день и ночь этот образ занимал его до такой степени, что он начал думать, что его побуждает к работе сверхъестественная сила». Через какое-то время (несколько лет) он изваял этот образ в мраморе. Однако сомнения скульптора не покидали.Однажды он привел в мастерскую семилетнего ребенка и спросил его: «Что это за статуя?» – «Спаситель», – ответил ребенок. Скульптор был счастлив.

From the transition between the towers (more likely even from the observation deck), beautiful views of this part of the park open up. С перехода между башнями (скорее даже со смотровой площадки) открываются красивые виды на эту часть парка. Кстати, ранше это место было обнесено забором и рвом, внутри нахождились дикие звери и это было место охоты царской семьи. А мы стряхнём пыль времени с глаз и посмотрим на осень. Она прекрасна в своём величии.
