The needle of Altamira [Eng-Esp]

Greetings architecture lovers friends! Today I would like to share with you one of the symbolic pieces of the city of Caracas El obelisco de la plaza Altamira. Join me to know a little about this important square of the Venezuelan capital.

This imposing spire is one of the ostentatious monuments of the capital city. I really enjoyed seeing all the details that this obelisk has in the surrounding area.

The square is composed of several segments, north square and south square, are the spaces that people have to sit, to admire the obelisk, take pictures or just walk around.

The obelisk is located inside a pool of water. Around it you can see the columns of the pool in the shape of a shell and above them a staircase where the water slides turning the pool into a striking fountain.

The entire monument is covered in beige stone, while the benches, planters and sculptures around the square are gray.

We can find vegetation, huge trees where visitors to the square take shelter from the sun. A lot of benches to sit on and garbage containers to keep the square clean.

The needle is on a base with figures that stand out to the eye. Then it extends in a smooth form up to the pyramidal tip. In the center it has the inscription that it was dedicated to a character that always worried about beautifying the city and to him the square was dedicated.

In front of the obelisk we find some stairs that take us down one level of the square. The mayor's office of Chacao to which the square belongs, installed giant letters that say "I love Chacoa" for tourists and locals to take pictures with the obelisk in the background.

In front of the letters we find a pool of water that acts as a mirror, on both sides of the pool stairs that take us one level down and in the middle of the stairs a large waterfall. When I visited the square the waterfall was not active but I have had the opportunity to pass by other times and see this spectacle.

At the end of the stairs, we found a shopping mall and the subway station. The truth is that I was delighted with this beautiful square, so complete with so many details.

The Plaza Altamira is a beautiful place and is perfectly located between important roads of the city, this made France chose it to have the Plaza Francia in Venezuela, for this reason they changed its name and it is really called Plaza Francia, although popularly people still call it Plaza Altamira.

IMG_20240405_132041.jpg

I hope you like my tour of this architectural beauty of the city of Caracas. In my case, I loved this place and I could say that every time I visit the capital I pass by here to spend some time in the square. It was a pleasure to share my experience with you, see you next time. Bye!
