Welcome once again to my blog, I hope you are having an incredible time enjoying the wonders of architecture and design. Today I want to share with you a new architectural experience that has made me fall in love since I met a picturesque town in my state of Merida, called: La Mucuy.

I met La Mucuy 10 years ago and for some time I visited it quite often, it is a place that catches you by the beauty of its landscapes, the human quality of its people, its climate, its handicrafts and of course its architecture.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place again, after spending about 3 years missing it, since nowadays going there is not as easy as it used to be. In this beautiful community, I have spent several memorable family moments that I keep with much affection in my mind and heart. On this occasion, celebrating my niece's birthday was the perfect excuse to spend a great weekend.

This link will take you to the post where I wrote a little about my experiences in this visit, but today I want to tell you why the typical architecture of the area has enchanted me.

The place where we spent the night is called: Las Dachas, here we can find a series of cabins, ready to receive those people who want to spend a few days full of tranquility and connect with nature. Las Dachas, is a charming place, is formed by 3 cabins, beautiful and cozy.

These houses maintain the colonial architectural style, which I love, because it is one of my favorites, I really like this kind of houses, because I consider that they are in perfect harmony with the natural environment that surrounds them. This one is my favorite, because it also has a special character that makes it look elegant.

The roofs of caña brava cane, supported on wooden straps and covered with Creole tile, predominate throughout the area, this type of roof is ideal for places like these, because they are more welcoming and in this place it is quite cold, especially in the mornings and evenings. I really like the finish of the walls and the color palette, because they enhance the wooden details of the doors and windows.

This type of rectangular windows with wooden frames and bars protruding from the wood are also very common here. Some windows are made of glass and others keep the wooden ones. We also often see those beautiful wrought iron details, which resemble small balconies, at the bottom of the windows.

We spent the night in the family house and not in the cabins specifically, so I do not have any interior pictures, because we did not have time, maybe another time, I can share the interior of these houses, which are very spacious, with elongated corridors around them, a huge living room, as well as the kitchen and in every corner natural materials such as wood predominate.

In the surroundings of the houses, green predominates, open spaces of grass, gardens and stone and brick walkways. Being here, gives me peace, relaxes me totally and makes me feel at home, as it takes me to the other end of this Andean State, where my parents' house is, because the houses and the environment in general are very similar.

The beams and columns that we can appreciate are made of rustic wood, placed practically natural, only coated with a layer of paint or varnish, this is so nice and harmonious to the eye. The roof purlins are also wooden trunks but much thinner. The use of these types of materials, make simple places, such as these, are charming.

This visit was special, because we walked a lot along the road, so I could better appreciate the houses that give life to this beautiful town, most of these are inns, for being a tourist place, rich in very attractive natural places, such as the Mucuy Natural Park, which is part of the Sierra Nevada National Park, Lagunas, in addition to its craftsmanship.

In the following two photographs, we can appreciate a more modern style, but that maintains the colonial influence, by the materials used in the type of roofs and windows.

From the road we can admire houses with beautiful corridors around them, Creole tile roofs, which look quite old, windows with protruding wooden details, caico, brick or similar ceramic floors, which combines perfectly with the rest of the materials. The roofs are generally hipped and gabled.

On our tour, we found the House of Culture, I managed to take some pictures from the road, since it was Sunday and everything was closed, we can see that it maintains the typical distribution, long corridors with columns all around, hipped tile roofs, wooden beams and stone details. In this house, we can learn more about the culture of this town, know its history, its traditions, its cultural past, I was very curious to enter and discover everything they have to tell here.

The next picture is of a small pizzeria, it is called Pizzas Alfredo, it is an incredible place and their pizzas are a delight, the wood-fired pizzas are out of this world. This time, I leave with the desire to eat here again, because they are usually open in the evenings, it will be another time. But from the architectural point of view, it is a very cozy place, very familiar, its interior design is rustic and natural that makes you live a unique experience.

The environment of this site is charming, we can find beautiful murals, made of stone or clay. Stops that maintain this architectural style, where wood and Creole tile enhance its beauty, achieving a perfect contrast between the built by man and the majestic nature.

I loved reading your publication, my memory flew to the memories I have of Merida with my family, I am glad to know that there is this style of places where nature prevails and where it is free to be appreciated by visitors and locals of the state.

It is a great way to highlight the architectural history of the state and the beauty of the place.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it, yes, it's a very nice place, the landscapes are a real poem. I would love to take a look at all the towns in my state. I have several to know. Greetings and blessings @ginethchira2301

What a beauty I have it engraved in my mind and heart, when I visited so many years ago; there I had chocolate with milk bread that was in a bakery that still does not know if it exists, that town remained as the works of art made on a canvas ... it's amazing how it remains beautiful, picturesque, colorful and with the colonial baroque style of the era of red roof tiles and green meadow in a pleasant climate.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful images in one of them, I imagine that the child is your beautiful and blessed son. Gratitude for making me dream again that I'm walking with you while we have a nice chat @doriangel

No worries. Appreciate your positive feedback, thank you! 😀

Thank you, my friend, for your beautiful comment. Juan Chocolate, it will be the place you say, it is right at the entrance of the village. That's how the town is, it is charming and remains the same, some new things, but the charm is not lost. Thank you for remembering my state in this way. A hug. @janitzearratia

Wao Doris did not imagine that it still exists many years ago since that last time there, the hot chocolate with the milk bread is delicious.

Greetings @doriangel. How are you doing? Certainly, the Mucuy is the perfect hideaway to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. I likewise admire the colonial architecture there as they blend easily with nature as you said. It's truly the ideal environment to relax, de-stress, and forget about the cares of the day! 😊

How's that community today? Is it still maintaining its serene atmosphere and rural vibes? Is the fast-moving development of urbanization starting to creep in?

Hello, very well and how are you? @storiesoferne

Thank you very much, La Mucuy is a lovely place, you breathe a lot of peace there.

The visit I told you about was 15 days ago and I noticed that they have made new constructions, but they are inspired by the same style, they are generally cabins and recreational centers for tourism purposes. There is still that serene and peaceful atmosphere, people live mainly from agriculture, livestock and many have jobs in nearby cities. Crafts and tourism, I think it was the main economic source, but this has declined considerably in recent years, due to the pandemic and the general situation of the country. Tourism, however, is always present and is becoming active again.

Okay I see - awesome observations @doriangel! I'm glad that Mucuy still has mantained that natural atmosphere for an authentic experience of the rural environment, much closer to Mother Nature. Though tourism is coming back, it's still acceptable as long as visitors are truly after the real essence.of that neighborhood, that's the tranquility of the site. Blessings! 🙏😊

Yes, I agree, they are people who seek to connect with the natural, with the simple and peaceful. My state of Merida has many good things to promote tourism, especially in the towns and villages, ideal for mountain lovers. There is only one beach, which is even closer to cities in other states, but no, here the attraction is nature and mountain recreational activities, more than anything else. I hope little by little, to show a little of all these towns, as I get to know them too, because I still have many municipalities to know.

I hope you are having a great day.

Awesome! I look forward to experiencing more remarkable landmarks from your homeland. It will be a delicious treat indeed. Have an enjoyable one! 😊

Thank you so much. ☺️ Gladly. So shall. It is a pleasure to write about my land. I hope you have a great day

Hi @doriangel, Merida state has beautiful landscapes, the cabin is very well located, the mountain makes a perfect contrast and offers a beautiful view of the place, it is the ideal destination when you want to relax and escape from the urban dynamism.

Greetings!

It is perfect to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and take a breath of fresh, clean air. Thank you very much for your comment. Have an amazing day. @belkyscabrera
