Buenos Aires - A jewel of architecture lost in time: Palacio Piria in the south of the city. 😃❤️

One of the things I like about spontaneous walks is that they can take you to unexpected places, often with good results. This, added to the fact that every time I go to a new place I try not to see the photos of it to surprise myself with my own eyes, they make each walk even more special. This was the case on our last walk in August: just when I thought I wasn't going to see anything interesting that month, almost by chance we arrived at the Piria Palace, on our way to the south of the city of Buenos Aires 😃.

With the idea of spending the afternoon somewhere different, my cousin took me and my aunts for a walk to "a surprise place". With him it's always all mystery, he doesn't tell you exactly where we're going until we're almost there. I know that his adventurous spirit is similar to mine, so I follow him without hesitation. After driving for more than an hour on the highway, we arrived at the coast of the Río de La Plata, in an area of resorts that may not be as crowded as others. And his idea was to go there because he wanted to visit "the abandoned palace" on the coast of Punta Lara, district of Ensenada.

Abandoned buildings always have a special spirit because they are surrounded by mystery and sometimes bad decisions regarding their future, but they never cease to be a special attraction to visit. To get there we put the Google map and we followed the suggested route, but it was incorrect to access with the truck, so we had to go back: when we got down we realized that the entire property was fenced and that in reality it was not possible to enter to see the building up close. It even had a creek out front so people don't walk past it, but guess if that deterred our curiosity 😅.

As we saw some people coming back from approaching the building, so did we. After a short crossing through the water, we managed to get through safely. This whole place is a large piece of land in front of the river, without any apparent function. It's just fenced off so people don't get in, but that doesn't seem to work because there's a lot of garbage around. A real shame because the place is beautiful and does not deserve it.

We still had to overcome one more obstacle, which was going under the fence of the gate. We felt like real intruders but there was no one else around, so we went in anyway with the promise not to break anything. This entire palace was absolutely beautiful, with ancient architecture combined with the wear and tear of time that kept our eyes on it.

The history of this building is quite interesting. Built in the early 1900s, this palace was acquired by the Uruguayan businessman Francisco Piria, who had the main idea of turning the Punta Lara spa into an emblematic place. Over the years, this place did not become as popular as expected (even today this spa is not as well known), so it ended up giving the building to the municipality. Honestly, I think that although the years go by, people always prefer to accumulate in the city of Buenos Aires and in the big buildings in the center, instead of moving a bit to the outskirts.

The last known use of this place was as a vacation colony for orphaned children. I imagine the happiness of all of them to be here in this place, because if it is beautiful now, in optimal conditions it was surely even more so. Our curiosity impelled us to enter, but at the same time we did not want to for fear of the occasional landslides. However, at least I was able to climb the stairs to get a little closer look.

The building is pretty vandalized, you know, by those people who think nonsense graffiti is "cool" or something. A pity that they ruin history, but on the part of the municipality there was no intention of putting this building in condition and using it for something other than to attract the curious. If you want to read a little more about everything that happened with this palace, you can check this article 😃.

When we had already explored enough and were beginning our return, we heard a noise and looking up again, we saw a young man sitting on the roof with his guitar. All the time we thought we were the only ones there, but who knows when he was watching us from there. Then I took a nice panoramic shot of him that he'll probably never see unless he checks out this blog right now 😅.

Due to some problems with travel reservations, I couldn't make any getaways in August, but visiting this place at least met my expectations of being in a great place. Before I was there I had never heard of it, so I considered it a true hidden gem and quite close to home. I hope that one day they take into account their renovation and manage to attract a little more tourism to this area, so at least at some point, poor Mr. Piria can see his wish come true 😅.

Decadence has its beauty, hopefully they will recover it someday, do you know the Urban Exploration community? It's to show abandoned places like this hehe, greetings @lauramica!

Ooooh I didn't know it, that's great 😃. I'm going to keep it in mind for my next usurpation to some abandoned place.

👏🏻👏🏻😉

It will be used as a location for a film, you'll see. These "forgotten" architectural structures will be used again at some point in their history.

Oh I hope so! It would be nice to see it with a little more life 😀.

The conclusion is that it was worth jumping the small stream that prevented the passage and also going through the security fence, the photos were very good and the story is captivating.

Oh, thank you ❤️. Glad that you liked it.

It's really very unfortunate, I like this architecture.. it really reflects the identity. in Indonesia there is no building like this

It is a pity that it has been abandoned, I hope that one day they will recover it.

It seems a beautiful structure in its heydays, it is just sad that it is left in ruins.

As I read your post and saw your wonderful photos, I just imagined how great it would be to restore it, well rebuild it. If abandoned, it looks like this, I can only imagine how majestic it was for the year 1900.

I also feel that in forgotten structures like this, there is some charm, especially mystery as you say. Excellent choice by your cousin. An interesting walk, with a great discovery.

Hello! Yes, restored it would look wonderful indeed, it would be a great place to go for a walk, considering that it is now. Thanks for your visit to my post ❣️.

Fabulous discovery and roasted journey into the unknown dear @lauramica.

I really liked that you made the trip by car. I love driving.

That building is indeed a treasure of architecture! Although in a dilapidated state, it clearly reminds us of its significant heritage in the memorable chapters of your local history and culture. Amazing find! 👍
