Modernized Bahay Kubo

IMG_20210704_150002.jpg

Bahay Kubo is a type of house made from a nipa hut or cogon grass and a bamboo tree. It's a stilt house of the indigenous Filipinos before the pre-colonial era. Before the Spaniards, which was the first who conquered the Philippines. There was no rock house or concrete house, it's all Bahay Kubo. This kind of house is simple and very old-fashioned. I don't know the history of Bahay Kubo but according to the internet from my research. Bahay Kubo was built like this so that it would be easier to fix if there was a typhoon that destroyed or damaged the house. I'm not really sure but it does make sense for me, perhaps it's true.

Still, why are there still Filipino people who love Bahay Kubo? If we mention tradition or culture, it's believable because even I think that way. It's nice to see an establishment that originated from your own country. It's like we miss the old us that made us become today. That's just my opinion and I don't know about some of you. It's hard to find this type of house where people still live. From what I've said earlier, it's easy to fix so it will be easier to destroy as well. Of course, even you personally will prefer the concrete house which can not be destroyed by just a typhoon easily.

Modernization is important to encourage people to love more. It doesn't mean we are erasing something for a new one but instead, it's improving it to see the real beauty of it. The simple one can be s beautiful one because some materials will be added but the signature design will still be there.

Most Filipinos don't live in this type of house but you can still see Bahay Kubo that serves as a rest house or a vacation house. If you have no idea why some people love Bahay Kubo to kill time. Simply because it's the cool feeling you have if you're inside. The nipa hut or cogon grass can prevent the heat of the sun from piercing inside. It can prevent rain as well but in the long run, the nipa hut or cogon will be decomposed. Well, it came from the leaves of a plant so it's expected.

Because of today's generation, we want everything to look elegant. The old and simple Bahay Kubo turned out to be so pretty. The materials are still the same but just added some materials to help it become so pretty.

IMG_20210704_144649.jpg

I forgot to state the materials they used in building a Bahay Kubo. It's composed of bamboo trees - serve as the foundation of the house, - serve as the wall but different styles are depending on what they prefer, - serve as the floor of the house, chair, table,e and everything that's inside will be made from bamboo trees. Nipa plants, cogon grass, or coconut leaves are the ones being used on its roof. Those are the two materials that will be used in building a Bahay Kubo.

If you noticed the bamboo tree became shiny, it's because of varnish. The varnish helps the bamboo tree turn out to be shinier and protected from getting the old look right away.

By the way, these Bahay Kubo are for sale. It was located in Leyte and the price of each is good for your pocket. Not that expensive but not that cheap. Seeing how beautiful it looks will give you an idea of how much more the price will be. It was built very well, by seeing how it was built you can tell from it.

If you don't want to stay inside the house because it feels like you don't see the surroundings. This cottage-style Bahay Kubo will be perfect for you. If you want a house because you love the Bahay Kubo design, this will be perfect. This is the design of Bahay Kubo from the indigenous Filipinos.

It's perfect as well if you have beaches or your house is near the shore. Most cottages on beaches are Bahay Kubo because of how nice it is to stay inside. Not a typical Bahay Kubo but it's almost the same.

I have my video on youtube where I stated the price of them. The price is different from that big one compared to this cottage-style.

Hello @mrnightmare89. Thank you for showcasing to us the modern version of the Filipino architectural icon called the Bahay Kubo. It's a delight to witness those gazebos or pergolas and the traditional house itself being displayed there together with your great personal video presentation of its history, materials, and building technology. Indeed, the humble bamboo will always be a versatile element in the construction of ancient as well as recently built environments in the Philippines.

A warm welcome to the Architecture+Design Community! Cheers!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will promote it, of course, it's our pride as people who lives in the Philippines especially when people love it. Thank you again.

It is difficult for a resident of cool Ukraine to understand how one can live in such a house, but I must admit that this is an ingenious building for its climatic zone and, from natural, renewable materials. Each element is thought out and made with great craftsmanship. This is a super house where you don't want to think about a snowy winter)!

Hahaha, please don't hope for a snowy winter because it's just made from a bamboo tree. It can't prevent the cold from going inside. lol

Thank you by the way.

I particularly admire this type of handcrafted constructions that dignify our ancestors, their great talent, creativity, ingenuity and for their great ingenuity, talent, creativity and industriousness. The historical natives took great care in works that at first glance are simple, but it was a real engineering work, with designs and materials that were well thought out to offer strength and beauty, according to the advances of the time, because I am sure that if those same architects and engineers of the past existed today with all the advances of today, they would do greater wonders with their great ingenuity. Excellent those bamboo and palm buildings, you have made an excellent presentation. I congratulate you @mrnightmare89 and many blessings to you.

Yeah, imagine there's no education those days and yet they created a nice house like this. They thought advance on how to shelter themselves and prevent themselves from restoring it when it gets damaged.

Hello @mrnightmare89 I greet you from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In Venezuela there is a similar type of construction called Palafitos, in fact there is a theory that states that when the Spanish conquerors observed these houses, built on the water by our native peoples, they imagined the city of Venice and called the place: "The little Venice "hence the name of my Country. Thank you for showing us this beauty, a true work of natural art. I congratulate you, keep writing and investigating to obtain better results in this our wonderful family @Arquitectura+Diseño Welcome. Receive a strong virtual hug full of positive energy and lots of light. Infinite blessings.

Little Venice huh, that's awesome even though I just saw Venice on television and the internet and haven't heard about Plafitos but assuming it's still cool and nice to live because of the similarities of this type of house.

By the way, have you shared those types of houses here? I just want to check it.
Thanks for dropping by.

Hi @mrnightmare89, firstly a friendly welcome to Architecture+Design Community! I've always wanted to have one of these gazebos made of bamboo. It's perfect for the tropical countryside climate. The bamboo slat floor, sawali walls, and wide openings allow natural air/ventilation to flow through.
