"Ani" Ancient City - Kars/Turkey (eng-tr)

in Architecture+Design2 years ago (edited)

Hello Dear friends,

If you want to see a historical building, you can take a look at this post. Have you saw through an open museum before? I have seen before. With this post, I would like to take you around this open museum. Get ready to meet one of the oldest structures in history!!!

Ani Ruins (#Ancient City) are located in the city of Kars. Kars is one of the historical cities of Turkey. You can often see #Russian architecture in the city, which was under the control of the Russians towards the end of the #Ottoman period. Many historical buildings have black stones. I went to Kars 5 years ago in the winter season with my friend. We went to Kars from Ankara by plane, stayed for 4 days and returned with the Doğu Ekspresi train. Our train journey took 24 hours. I stayed in the sleeping car (saloon) with my girlfriend. I would like to talk about my adventure on this train in another post. It was a very enjoyable journey.

Ani was the capital of the #Armenian rulers between 961 and 1045. There are also some works of #Islamic #architecture from the 11th to the 12th centuries. Ani, which was included in the World Heritage Tentative List by #UNESCO in 2012, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2016.

The #Cathedral you see in the first photo. It had a magnificent structure. While I was there, I couldn't go inside because it was in the restoration process. Although it was made centuries ago, it is still very powerful.
Also known as the Cathedral of Ani, the Virgin Mary Church was built in 989 by the #architect Trdat, who repaired the dome of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The height of this structure is very different. You feel tiny when you stand next to it.

I prayed with my friend in this building, which used to be a #Cathedral and is now used as a #Mosque. Since we went to Kars in winter, the weather was very cold. We entered the mosque to warm up, but inside the mosque was cold. There was an electric stove, but due to the stones of the building, it was not getting hot. The floor was very cold. After praying and taking pictures, we left the Mosque immediately :)

The city of Ani is very close to the border with Armenia. The City of Ani is also known as the city of 1001 churches or the city of 40 gates. The City of Ani was discovered in the 1880s.
The city is surrounded by walls. Currently, 8 churches and a mosque are under protection.
The ancient city of Ani is surrounded by walls. The walls are so long. Within the walls, 8 churches and a mosque are under protection.
Surrounded by Arpaçay Canyon on both sides, the third front of Ani was protected by strong 10th-century walls. Can you imagine? 10th century!!!

10. yy !!!

The structure above goes down in history as Turkey's oldest Mosque. Unfortunately, it is not actively used at the moment. Name of the mosque: Ebu'l Manuçehr Mosque

Maalesef şu an aktif olarak kullanılmıyor. Camii'nin adı: Ebu'l Menuçehr Camii

I love my photo below. I am watching Armenia from one of the cathedrals. As I mentioned above, the city of Ani is located on the border with Armenia. The borders of these two countries were closed for a long time. But this year #diplomatic relations between the countries began. Probably the borders will open soon. I would like it to open. We lived on the same land for many years.

I want to say goodbye to you with my last photo. With this post, I tried to tell you about an open historical #museum. There are many similar historical buildings in the eastern cities of Turkey. In time, I would like to share these historical structures from this valuable community.

Thank you so much for your comment🌸 Here is near midnight now, and have a good afternoon for you. This Ancient City is very beautiful. Also, I want to go there in spring. If you have any chance, you can visit this historic city.

The interior is very unique. What part of the structure do you love the most @oneplanet?

Thanks for your comment🌍 I love the Mosque (with black stone) where we were a prayer in.

The borders of these two countries were closed for a long time. But this year #diplomatic relations between the countries began. Probably the borders will open soon. I would like it to open. We lived on the same land for many years.

Surely many people are looking forward to this event later, it looks like the border will become a brotherhood later. You are very lucky to be able to visit this beautiful place @oneplanet. Barakallah

From “border” to “brotherhood”
That is very good point. Thank you for this comment🌸

You are welcome my friend. Marhaba...Blessing

Very nice. One day, I want to go and tour with the Doğu Ekspresi. Thanks to you, I've been so far. :)

You have to use this train journey. This #journey is very interesting experience of my life✌️

Wow, I felt even small to see the height of the arches of the entrance and I liked seeing how the mosque is built with black stones is something I had not seen.

It is really very very huge structure and these black stones belong to the Russian architecture style.

It was a good deed what the Russians did.
