Well, I never thought about cities competing with their urban counterparts on their seldom outrageous buildings simply to mesmerize, intimidate, or bewilder their foreign visitors. On the other hand, perhaps this could be their marketing strategy (from a business perspective) to strongly lure more tourists, residents, and investors into their localities, thus directly improving their cultural, social, and economic development.
