Night ghosts of the past - [Shadow Hunters Contest/SMASh - Round 202] - (14 photos)

I do not promise you the shadow of Hamlet, but I met something similar at night on Nevsky Prospekt.
Prince Mikhail Bogdanovich Barclay de Tolly (born Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly, German Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly, 16 [27] December 1761 - 14 [26] May 1818) was a Russian commander of Scotch-German origin.

Minister of War (January 1810 - August 1812), Field Marshal General (since 1814). The second (after M. I. Kutuzov) full cavalier of the Order of St. George. From the spring of 1812 - commander of the 1st Western Army. In fact, he served as Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army at the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, from his departure from the army of Alexander I to the appointment of M. I. Kutuzov. In the foreign campaign of the Russian army of 1813-1814, he commanded the combined Russian-Prussian army as part of the Allied forces under the overall command of Prince Schwarzenberg. Commander-in-Chief of the 1st Army (1814-1818).

Every commander could be proud of such a track record, but today we are interested in shadows. Can you imagine what an important shadow I met that night?

Opposite the left wing of the Kazan Cathedral stands a similar monument to the commander Kutuzov.
Count (1811), Most Serene Prince (1812) Mikhail Illarionovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov (September 5 [16], 1745, St. Petersburg - April 16 [28], 1813, Bunzlau) - Russian commander, statesman and diplomat, field marshal general from of the Golenishchev-Kutuzov family, participant in the Russian-Turkish wars, commander-in-chief of the Russian army during the Patriotic War of 1812. Kazan, Vyatka and Lithuanian Governor-General, St. Petersburg and Kiev military governor. Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkey. The first full knight of the Order of St. George. From 1812 he was called the Most Serene Prince Golenishchev-Kutuzov-Smolensky.
However, I could not find his shadow, apparently he is more cautious and modest.

Claude's horses were not distinguished by caution, but these shadows are completely invisible in summer. Water absorbs not only light and people. Now ... in the snow ... however, you can see everything for yourself.

The Fontanka River is covered with ice, but I wouldn't risk getting on it. It's not about fast currents, there are none here. But in some places warm waters of economic activity get into the water of the river. I'm not talking about their purity, maybe they are clean, but they are definitely warmer than water in the river and can wash away the ice from below. As a result, you can simply fall through the ice. But these people in the photo do not know or do not think about it.

Yes, to see the shadow, you need to find the light. These are two sides of the same coin, this is the Yin and Yang of our being.

Winter shadows are really quite striking on a smooth sheen of snow. Very nice, and a very neat history lesson, too.

History is a complex thing, and historical figures are contradictory. But this is our story :)
