First of all, I introduce myself to the community. Over here Angel Castro writes to you, from Caracas, Venezuela. A pleasure...
At the beginning of my participation in these spaces (HIVE) I saw me very destined to write about anecdotes and share some (few) videos with musical content . Then the musical content became the center of my interest in the community, both as creator and as spectator.(I take advantage of it, and I invite you to see the things that I have shared in other communities)
Later, looking for other communities, and on the recommendation of @naradamoon, I saw that there were spaces to share reading and writing. That motivates me, again, to want to diversify the content, sharing a little of the things that I am reading or have read, at the same time that I know literature and opinions of others ...
This time I want to talk you about a book that I really liked a lot. It is, logically, the one I used in the title of the post: Journey to Ixtlán, by Carlos Castaneda.
For those who do not know, this book is part of a collection of books written by Castaneda, where he recounts the teachings and knowledge of a Yaqui sorcerer, Don Juan, transmitted to him over several years. Also tell you that this is a controversial issue, just read a little on Wikipedia (to say something) to notice that there are conflicting opinions on the Castaneda-Don Juan issue, but beyond that, I want to talk about the book, as a book more, with some verbatim quotes, even.
Journey to Ixtlán is the third book of the aforementioned collection, it was published in 1973 and brings together a series of experiences that he lived with Don Juan, and how that was leaving deep learnings, teachings to face life, to live life. Or well, they seem like it to me.
For example, Don Juan emphasizes the infinite and unattainable that THE TRUTH is(or is someone capable of saying: "I HAVE THE TRUTH"?). It does so even starting from the beginning: our own perception of the world; inviting us to create a new description of the world in order to contrast it with the old one, "break the DOGMATIC CERTAINTY, shared by all of us, that the validity of our perceptions or our reality of the world is beyond all doubt"; in other words, that our way of seeing the world IS THE ONLY REALITY / TRUTH).
This belief in being the owner of the truth goes hand in hand with arrogance, which is described as a feeling of superiority in front of others, because when saying "I am right", it could imply that others are not, that is , in certain sense they are below. In relation to this, Don Juan not only urges him not to feel THE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE WORLD, because "he will not be able to truly appreciate the world that surrounds him"; Rather, it states:
"men are not better than anything else."
The advice goes beyond an equality between human beings, it is an equality with everything that surrounds us, with everything that has life and movement.
Another topic that touches on is DEATH, a topic that many times we do not like to deal with for various reasons, although it is the only certain in life. But Don Juan gives it a different dimension. First of all, he takes it as an eternal companion, who is always there by our side: stalking and at the same time advising. Seen like this: WE ARE NEVER ALONE! And as while we are alive, there is always an opportunity to change, to improve, to overcome, etc., then Don Juan tells him "every time you feel that everything is going wrong for you and that you are about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if it is true. Your death will tell you that you are wrong, that nothing really matters more than its touch. Your death will tell you "I have not touched you yet", that is, you are alive.
As long as death accompanies you, YOU ARE ALIVE !!!!!
And yes, it is a happiness to be alive, or NO? Everyone answers that question. But beyond that beauty, it is a responsibility, we must be responsible for the power that we have within. Don Juan captures for him that profound importance of being responsible that he associates it with the preceding theme, since he says: "Taking responsibility for our decisions means being willing to die for them"; Again the theme of death, now seen as the end of the cycle that it supposes. But yes, this idea implies an impeccable commitment to what is decided, with what is said / done / thought, it has to do with an admirable coherence in the way of life, where one is able to put life into words.
And well, friends, until here I leave you in this first post about the aforementioned book. Then I will share in parts what is missing from this, as well as other books that I find interesting.

Tun, tun, tun... Buenas, buenas...
Primero que nada me presento a la comunidad. Por acá les escribe Angel Castro, desde Caracas, Venezuela. Un placer...
Al inicio de mi participación en estos espacios (HIVE) lo veía muy destinado a escribir sobre anécdotas y compartir algún que otro video con contenido musical. Luego el contenido musical se convirtió en el centro de mi interés en la comunidad, tanto de creador, como de espectador. (Aprovecho, y los invito a ver las cosas que he montado en otras comunidades)
Posteriormente, buscando otras comunidades, y por recomendación de @naradamoon, vi que habían espacios para compartir lectura y escritura. Eso me motiva a, nuevamente, querer diversificar el contenido, compartiendo un poco de las cosas que esté leyendo o haya leído, a la vez que conozco literatura y opiniones de otros...
Esta vez les quiero comentar acerca de un libro que, la verdad, me gustó bastante. Se trata, lógicamente, del que usé en el título del post: Viaje a Ixtlán, de Carlos Castaneda.
Para aquel que no lo conozca, este libro entra dentro de una colección de libros escritos por Castaneda, donde relata las enseñanzas y el conocimiento que le trasmitió un brujo Yaqui, Don Juan, a lo largo de varios años. También decirles que este es un tema controversial, basta leer un poquito en Wikipedia (por decir algo) para notar que hay opiniones encontradas en el tema Castaneda-Don Juan, pero mas allá de eso, les quiero es hablar del libro, como un libro mas, con algunas citas textuales, incluso.
Viaje a Ixtlán es el tercer libro de la mencionada colección, fue publicado en 1973 y reune una serie de experiencias que vivió con Don Juan, y cómo eso fue dejando aprendizajes profundos, enseñanzas para afrontar la vida, para vivir la vida. O bueno, a mi me lo parecen.
Por ejemplo, Don Juan hace énfasis a lo infinito e inalcanzable que es LA VERDAD (o alguien es capaz de decir: "YO TENGO LA VERDAD"?). Lo hace partiendo incluso desde el inicio: nuestra propia percepción del mundo; invitándonos a crear una nueva descripción del mundo para, al constrastarla con la vieja,"romper la CERTEZA DOGMÁTICA, compartida por todos nosotros, de que la validez de nuestras percepciones o nuestra realidad del mundo, estan mas allá de toda duda"; en otras palabras, que nuestra forma de ver el mundo ES LA ÚNICA REALIDAD/VERDAD).
Esto de creerse dueño de la verdad, va muy de la mano con la arrogancia, que es decrito como un sentimiento de superioridad frente a otros, pues al decir "yo tengo la razón", podría implicar que los demás no la tienen, o sea, en cierto sentido están por debajo. En relación a esto, Don juan no solamente le conmina a no sentirse EL MAS IMPORTANTE DEL MUNDO, pues "no podrá apreciar en verdad el mundo que le rodea"; sino que sentencia:
"los hombres no son mejores que ninguna otra cosa".
El consejo va mas allá de una igualdad entre seres humanos, es una igualdad con todo lo que nos rodea, con todo lo que tenga vida y movimiento.
Otra de las temáticas que toca es LA MUERTE, tema que muchas veces no nos gusta tratar por diversas razones, a pesar que es lo único seguro en esta vida. Pero Don Juan le da una dimensión diferente. Primero que nada la toma como una eterna compañera, que siempre está allí a nuestro lado: acechando y a la vez aconsejando. Visto así: NUNCA ESTAMOS SOLOS! Y como mientras estemos vivos, siempre hay oportunidad de cambiar, de mejorar, de superar, etc, entonces Don Juan le comenta "cada vez que sientas que todo te está saliendo mal y que estas a punto de ser aniquilado, vuélvete hacia tu muerte y pregúntale si es cierto. Tu muerte te dirá que te equivocas, que nada importa en realidad mas que su toque. Tú muerte te dirá "todavía no te he tocado"", es decir, estas vivo.
Mientras la muerte te acompañe, ESTAS VIVO!!!!!
Y sí, es una felicidad estar vivos, o NO? Cada quien que se responda esa pregunta. Pero mas allá de esa belleza, es una responsabilidad, debemos ser responsables del poder que tenemos dentro. Don Juan le plasma esa importancia tan profunda de ser responsable que lo asocia con el tema precedente, pues dice: "Hacernos responsables de nuestras decisiones significa estar dispuestos a morir por ellas"; nuevamente el tema muerte, ahora visto como el fin de ciclo que supone. Pero si, esta idea implica compromiso impecable con lo decidido, con lo que se dice/hace/piensa, tiene que ver con una coherencia en la forma de vida admirable, donde se es capaz de poner la vida en palabra.
Y bueno, amigos, hasta acá les dejo en este primer post sobre el libro mencionado. Luego iré compartiendo por partes lo que falta de este, así como otros libros que me parezcan interesantes.
