Indonesian Couple Whipped for Premarital Sex 😱

Two Indonesians caught having premarital sex were flogged a hundred times each in the conservative Aceh province. The couple had their temperatures checked and wore face masks as they were lashed with a rattan cane outside a mosque on the western tip of Sumatra. Aceh is the only region in Muslim-majority Indonesia to impose Islamic law, which allows whipping for charges including gambling, adultery, drinking alcohol, and gay sex.

Beating people for loving each other is barbaric in my world view

Hello @atheistrepublic... I have chosen your post for my daily reblogging initiative. This is my contribution to Hive...

Indonesia is quite strict when it comes to issues with marriage and sexual relationships and I also think they're also against dressing provocatively. However this issue is logical, since they're couples whipping them for having premarital sex is a no brainer all I'm saying is, if they chose to have pre marital sex and they were flogged, is this a traditional punishment or a religious punishment? Whatever it is, this is totally wrong in my opinion.

Not really, it depends on the region. That specific region is exception. Let's not forget Bali is Indonesia too and there are megapolitan city like Jakarta too.

Even though they knew it is a crime, yet they fell to it. It isn't an easy thing to conquer the feelings of satisfying the pleasure the body might request at times.
Religion rules should be far fair than force, aggression or using strict principles.
Should something terrible happen while they are been flogged, who will bear this responsibility?
Their should be right to life and choice. It is a free life, everything should be normal and cool except you are doing something that can cause damages or harm to the people closer to you or people presently around our world. Premarital sex?
Ladies over 18 is some countries might not come home for as long as she decided and be living couples life with some guy. imagine that?

I know there are a lot of people from Aceh on Hive, so their reactions would be interesting. I see someone already replied to say that the punishment under Islam could have been worse. That is no excuse. Beating people for loving each other is barbaric in my opinion. Who are they harming? From a Euorpean viewpoint it is hard to comprehend.

caning.
in my opinion it's very good. The aim is to be a learning process for those who testify and for the convicted person. in my opinion this is a light sentence and a solution to solve the problem.

many couples who have sex but are not given any punishment. in this case what will happen. ?

it's likely that the couple will have sex again, or he will have sex with someone else's husband or wife. so whiping in public is the solution to that problem.

I asked a friend who did not agree with caning. if your daughter or wife has sex with another man. What would you do ?
he immediately answered I would kill the man. but why when there is a partner who is said to be bad caning.

In my opinion, caning is a mild punishment and a solution to prevent perpetrators.

I respect your view, but if we consider that this practice has been implemented for centuries, maybe, and still we have perpetrators, I am not sure to what extent it is a solution.
I do not think it solves anything. The inmorality of the act is based on religious grounds, most likely, but like any moral judgement, it will aways be subjected to generational gaps (in most cultures, what was inmoral 50 years ago, sometimes less, it becomes accepted now).
It gets aggravated when people learn about their leaders' tresspassings. In the case of catholic countries, for instance, every time a priest abuses a minor it demoralizes the whole system, it renders priests' authority hypocritical and lame.
People do not correct destructive behavior, even when it actually damages them (alcohol, drugs, cigarretes, etc.). I think we are a flawed design. Some may fight it and persevere (we all know some virtuous people), but most soccumb to their wiring.

Agreed with this

The immorality of the act is based on religious grounds, most likely, but like any moral judgement, it will always be subjected to generational gaps (in most cultures, what was immoral 50 years ago, sometimes less, it becomes accepted now).
