Hello vegan lovers, today I will invite you to prepare one of my simple recipes at home. Inspired by one of the social media posts I found, this recipe uses salak, a type of local fruit that is very cheap on the market and loved by many people. This fruit has a distinctive feature in its scaly, slightly thick, and sharp skin, so you have to be careful when peeling it. Salak comes in several varieties, and the one I'm using here is the salak pondok variety, which has a sweeter taste and is usually smaller in size compared to other salak varieties.
I usually enjoy salak fruit on its own, or in a salad, like the one I made last week, which was a salak pliek u salad. But this time, I'm going to show you how to make something different with salak.
Fried Salak with Flour
Fried salak with flour is something new to me. This dish is rarely known to many people, including my family. When they found out that this dish was made from salak, they were very surprised. Yes, because salak is usually made into salad or enjoyed as is.

Fried salak is an alternative way I've found to prepare salak. This is a unique fried dish that I found the recipe for on the internet some time ago. I was very surprised when I saw a food blogger review fried salak as one of the fried foods sold at street stalls. According to him, fried salak has a very unique taste, similar to bananas. Ah, that made me very curious, especially for banana fritter lovers like me—this dish is a must-try because the review is so similar to banana fritters.
Curious about the taste? Let’s take a look at the step-by-step preparation below.
Ingredients

100 grams of wheat flour
30 grams of rice flour
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
1 clove of red onion
1 clove of garlic
Procedure for Making
- Mix the wheat flour and rice flour, then add sugar and salt.

- Add water, stir until evenly mixed, then add chopped shallots and garlic.

- As for the salak, as mentioned in my previous post, I removed the seeds and washed it thoroughly. Then I mixed it into the flour mixture.

- Next, I fried them in hot oil until they were crispy and golden brown.

Result

Serve the fried salak on a serving plate. Once cooked, if you want to reduce the oil content, you can air fry them briefly to make them completely dry. Serve with sauce or palm sugar sauce, and you will experience a different kind of fried snack.

It turns out to be very tasty and indeed quite different. At first glance, it resembles sweet and sour bananas and is perfect to enjoy during the rainy season like this while still hot after frying. A cup of hot tea will greatly enhance the enjoyment of this dish.
