Be compassionate… say NO to fireworks

Hello plant based foodies, wherever you are in the world!

Have you ever been in a bombing raid during a war? Have you ever experienced excruciating, immobilizing fear? Have you ever been sure that an explosion will fall on top of you and tear you into a thousand pieces? Have you ever felt like life is slipping away from you and you can't do anything to stop it? I hope not, although I suppose that some of the readers have been in a war conflict and unfortunately they have experienced all these situations.

I ask you all these questions, dear friends of the Plant Power (Vegan) community, because we are in the Christmas season, a period during which it is common for people in many countries to "have fun" with pyrotechnics or fireworks, a custom that unfortunately is very Ingrained in many cultures, but which also takes many animal lives year after year, as a result of the terror that they experience when they hear these explosions, or there is also the terrible case that they are intentionally and directly attacked with these explosives. Human evil sometimes has no limit...

I'm not exaggerating, I really don't, and it happens that a dog, a cat, a bird or any other animal has more developed physical senses than humans. For example, a dog's hearing capacity is four times that of a human; but that of the cat far exceeds it, because it can be eight times greater than that of man. The auditory systems of both animals are designed to pick up even sounds that are produced at a great distance. Something similar happens with birds, and although they have a hearing range similar to that of humans, their bone structures and feathers make their auditory systems more efficient.

Now, you have wondered, what can an animal feel (regardless of its species, be it dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, horses, reptiles, etc.), when it hears the pyrotechnic explosions and has no knowledge and cannot understand? Let's see what happens when animals in general perceive fireworks:

image.png

  • Uncontrollable tremors, panting and salivation.

  • Convulsions and fainting.

  • High levels of stress, fear and terror that can become chronic.

  • They flee, exposing themselves to being run over by vehicles or other risks and dangers.

  • Involuntary urination and defecation.

  • Tachycardia.

  • Paralysis.

  • Disorientation.

  • Damage to the hearing device, and the consequent total or partial loss of hearing.

  • Intoxication and contamination by the gases and particles expelled by these gadgets.

  • Death, product of heart attacks due to the terror they experience.

In view of all of the above, do you consider it justifiable and appropriate to cause so much damage to another living being just for a while of "comfort" or "fun" for you? Do you think it is good to be selfish and carry out an activity that, in addition to being expensive, generates damage, terror and fear to other living beings, and that can also imply risk for you as well (explosions and damage to limbs, fires, etc.)? Please try to reflect and be a little more respectful and considerate of other living beings.

I call on you: Be compassionate, say NO to fireworks

I dont think I have ever bought any. That makes sense to avoid them if you can.

That's the idea, don't buy them and teach kids that fireworks aren't fun, especially if they cause harm to another living being. More compassion, more love, more respect.

Gtreetings @mypathtofire

I am worried that they are dangerous too.

Many places do laser shows instead of fireworks. Probably more for environmental reasons than because they care about animals, but it's still a nice and quiet show to watch.

Hi @treefrognada!

I think the lasers are a good alternative, although I think they can have adverse effects on night birds, they disorient them, however, the damage to the rest of the creatures is reduced.

I hadn't thought about that, really. But if it's the light that affect the night birds, maybe regular fireworks are just as bad for them. And street lights, cars, neon signs...

Fireworks, or pyrotechnics, are much worse. Better are the lasers. I wish people loved animals more.

The real celebration is when we are able to free our greedy soul towards the world and share with the people around us whose lives are far below us, and that's where we will feel gratitude that our life is very meaningful. (a little annoyed with people who easily end their lives or waste their lives) @plantpoweronhive

Very interesting comment @maytom. Certainly people lose what is essential and important in vain things and celebrations. You have to be aware and give the real meaning to these dates. Greetings.

Hello, an important and timely information for the season, my little dog is terrified of fireworks, she goes under my bed, there she feels safe and calms down. Greetings.

Take good care of your dog, and consult the veterinarian to prescribe an appropriate calmant. I hope that this year she doesn't suffer much, that she is calmer. Greetings!
