Hello friends, this is my first time in this community and I wanted to bring you a recipe whose main ingredient is red lentils. A few days ago I was given them as a gift and I had never made them, so I went to the internet to get an idea of how to prepare them. I found several recipes, but I got an idea of how to make them. The ideal is that we can adapt the recipes we like with the ingredients we have on hand because many times we insist on preparing recipes from other countries (in this case I wanted to follow a Turkish recipe where they use all those strange spices that I have not even remotely tried) that look delicious and serve as a source of inspiration, but I can not follow it to the letter because many ingredients are difficult for me. That's why I substituted them for the ones I can get instead of them, with basic spices, the important thing is the main ingredient which are the red lentils, which are the same, if you can't find them you can use normal lentils, you just have to soak them the day before.

Hola amigos, es mi primera vez en esta comunidad y quise traerles una receta cuyo ingrediente principal es las lentejas rojas. Hace unos días me las regalaron y nunca las había elaborado, por lo que acudí al internet para tener una idea de cómo prepararlas. Encontré varias recetas, pero me llevé una idea de cómo poder hacerlas. Lo ideal es que podemos adaptar las recetas que nos gustan con los ingredientes que tenemos a mano porque muchas veces nos empeñamos en preparar recetas de otros países (en este caso quise seguir una receta turca donde utilizan todas esas especias extrañas que ni remotamente he probado) que se ven deliciosas y nos sirven como una fuente de inspiración, pero no puedo seguirla al pie de la letra porque muchos ingredientes se me dificultan. Por eso los sustituí por los que puedo conseguir en lugar de ellos, con especias básicas, lo importante es el ingrediente principal que son las lentejas rojas, que igual, si no las encuentran se pueden utilizar lentejas normales, solo deben ponerlas en remojo el día anterior.

Ingredients // Ingredientes

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil - 2 cucharadas de aceite vegetal
  • Onion - Cebolla
  • Garlic - Ajo
  • ¼ cabbage - ¼ de col o repollo
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste - 1 cucharada de pasta de tomate
  • 200 g red lentils - 200 g de lentejas rojas
  • 3 cups of water - 3 tazas de agua
  • ½ tablespoon salt - ½ cucharada de sal
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar - 2 cucharadas de vinagre
  • Lettuce leaves for garnish - Hojas de lechuga para decorar

  • You can use all the vegetables you have at home: potatoes, carrots, beets, eggplant, tomatoes, whatever you want.

Puedes usar todas las verduras y hortalizas que tengas en casa: papa, zanahoria, remolacha, berenjena, tomate, las que desees.

First, I finely chopped the cabbage and placed it in a bowl while I prepared the other ingredients.

Primeramente, piqué muy finamente la col y coloqué en un recipiente mientras preparaba los demás ingredientes.

Prepare all the spices by chopping them finely.

Place the oil in a saucepan and sauté all the spices.

Colocar el aceite en una olla y sofreír todas las especies.

Add the chopped cabbage and stir until everything is mixed, add the salt and vinegar.

Añadir la col picada y revolver hasta que se mezcle todo, agregar la sal y el vinagre.

When it is well sautéed, add the tomato paste and stir until it has a uniform color.

Cuando ya se haya sofreído bien añadir la pasta de tomate y revolver hasta que tome un color uniforme.

Now it is time to add the lentils, stir so that everything mixes very well while frying, then pour the 3 cups of water in the preparation. Taste the salt and if needed add a little more to taste.
Cook for about 15 minutes without pressure because they are very soft. You have to be very attentive because as I said they are very fast, if you miss them there is no problem you can take advantage of them and make a puree or cream of red lentils.

Ya es hora de añadir las lentejas, revolver para que todo se mezcle muy bien mientras se sofríe, luego vertemos las 3 tazas de agua en la preparación. Prueba la sal y si le hace falta otro poco añadir a gusto.
Cocinar aproximadamente unos 15 minutos sin presión porque son muy blandas. Tienen que estar muy atentos porque como les dije son rapidísimas, si se les pasa no hay problema pueden aprovecharlas y hacer un puré o crema de lentejas rojas.

In the meantime I chopped some lettuce leaves to use as decoration.

Mientras tanto piqué unas hojas de lechuga para utilizarla como decoración.

This recipe is quite easy to make and very nutritious, because lentils have excellent properties. Red lentils have two advantages over normal lentils, they are much better digested because they have no skin and you don't have to soak them because they are so soft, they were very tasty, well, that's what my relatives said 😄. Es una receta bastante fácil de hacer y muy nutritiva, pues las lentejas tienen excelentes propiedades. Las lentejas rojas tienen dos ventajas con respecto a las normales, se digieren muchísimo mejor porque no tienen piel y no hay que ponerlas en remojo por ser tan blanditas, quedaron muy ricas, bueno, eso dijeron mis familiares 😄.
