Cada 27 de noviembre, se celebra un año más de la fundación de Cumaná, primogénita del continente americano, en el estado Sucre, Venezuela, fecha en la cual la ciudad se viste de gala con la celebración de las Noches de Antaño, festividad alusiva a la Cumaná de la época colonial, con vestimenta y tradiciones típicas.
Las fiestas de Antaño se celebraron por primera vez en 1993, con auspicio de la alcaldía del municipio Sucre, para rememorar la viejas costumbres y tradiciones de la Cumaná antañona, en un ambiente de feria familiar, dónde prevalece la cortesía, la amabilidad, la caballerosidad, el romanticismo y el respeto.
Every November 27th, one more year of the foundation of Cumaná, first-born of the American continent, in the state of Sucre, Venezuela, is celebrated. On this date the city dresses up with the celebration of the "Noches de Antaño", a festival allusive to the Cumaná of the colonial era, with typical costumes and traditions.
The "fiestas de Antaño" were celebrated for the first time in 1993, under the auspices of the mayor's office of the Sucre municipality, to recall the old customs and traditions of the Cumaná of yesteryear, in an atmosphere of family fair, where courtesy, kindness, chivalry, romanticism and respect prevail.
Está celebración inicialmente se basaba en el uso de vestimenta de la Nobleza Española, posteriormente se fueron incorporando otros hechos culturales, así como personajes indígenas, afroamericanos, también artículos y objetos antiguos de diferentes épocas, convirtiendo está celebración en un verdadero viaje en el tiempo.
This celebration was initially based on the use of clothes of the Spanish Nobility, later other cultural facts were incorporated, as well as indigenous characters, African Americans, also articles and antique objects from different eras, turning this celebration into a real journey through time.
Cada año la Plaza Bolívar, el Casco Histórico y el Castillo San Antonio de la Eminencia de Cumaná, se llena de alegría y un aire festivo que atrae a una gran cantidad de personas, que acuden a disfrutar en familia, solos o acompañados, de una agradable velada.
En la Plaza Bolívar se presentan agrupaciones regionales de música tradicional venezolana, mientras que en todo el Casco Histórico desde la Plaza Bolívar hasta la Plaza Rivero, se ubican los diferentes stands con dulcería criolla, platos típicos, artesanías, así como también simulaciones de viviendas y comercios de la época y en el Castillo San Antonio, se hacen las premiaciones al mejor traje de antaño adulto e infantil, mejor stand, se presentan los artistas y agrupaciones musicales nacionales e internacionales y se le canta el cumpleaños a la ciudad de Cumaná con una demostración de fuegos artificiales que llenan el cielo de colores e iluminan toda la ciudad, mostrando todo su esplendor y belleza.
Every year, the Plaza Bolivar, the Historical Center and the San Antonio de la Eminencia Castle of Cumana are filled with joy and a festive air that attracts a large number of people, who come to enjoy with their families, alone or accompanied, such a pleasant evening.
