These lands were the lands of caciques, cacicas (chiefs in war issues) and the jaguar, not too long ago in history, if you look at it from a broad perspective.
In this vast forest, there were micro-nations everywhere, counted by hundreds, each one of them with its own wisdom, traditions and language. these peoples coexisted with the condor and the anaconda, and, most likely, had to fight the puma, sometimes. There was a nation composed only by warrior women, which Spaniard invaders called The Amazonas. There were nations that devoted their existence to art, as Quimbayas did, while others were mainly warriors, such as Kindus. They even used to build symbiotic relationships among them by trading ornaments for protection, for example...
This is all history, you may say. And yes, it is. However, history itself is not the one thing I praise the most from this territory, but rather the mark that it imprints in the present time. No matter the passing of time, or how devastating history in this latitude has been, the wild is still present. In these lands, you can see the exuberance of nature, you still can walk on the paths that, centuries ago, natives made, and listen to the wisdom of the grandparents. You can take the plants they used to take and dance their healing and protective chants...
I know, even without having been abroad, that there's a lot of prejudice towards this territory. For sure, it has been the result of its most recent historical events. Thus, what people around the world know about Colombia is mostly stereotypes and bias. Nonetheless, I also know that the mindful visitors are aware of what I'm talking about, and I'm pretty sure that they totally agree with it.
This article is written in response to the question in the Hive Cross Culture Community, What is something you love about the country you grew up in?

Estas tierras fueron las tierras de cacicas, caciques y del jaguar, hace no mucho tiempo, si observamos la historia desde una perspectiva amplia.
En ésta selva inmensa, había micro naciones por todos lados, se contaban en cientos, cada una con su propia sabiduría, tradiciones e idioma. Éstas comunidades cohabitaban éste espacio con el cóndor y la anaconda y, muy seguramente, en algunas ocasiones tuvieron que luchar contra el puma. Había una nación compuesta exclusivamente de mujeres guerreras, a quienes los invasores españoles llamaron Las Amazonas. Había naciones que dedicaban su existencia al arte, como lo hacían los Quimbayas, mientras otras eran principalmente guerreras, como los Kindus. Incluso, algunas de ellas solían construir relaciones simbióticas con otras, intercambiando ornamentos por protección, por ejemplo...
Podrían decir que todo esto es historia... y es verdad, lo es. Sin embargo, la historia por sí sola no es aquello que considero más valioso de éste territorio, sino más bien la marca que ésta imprime al tiempo presente. Sin importar el paso del tiempo o lo devastadora que ha sido la historia en éstas latitudes, lo salvaje aún está presente. En estas tierras, puedes ver lo exuberante de la naturaleza, aún puedes caminar por caminos que, hace siglos, abrieron los nativos y puedes escuchar la sabiduría de las abuelas. Aquí, aún puedes tomar las plantas que los abuelos solían tomar y danzar sus cantos sanadores o protectores.
Yo sé, sin siquiera haber salido del país, cuánto prejuicio hay hacia éste territorio. Éste ha sido sin duda el resultado de sus eventos históricos más recientes. De ésta forma, aquello que la gente al rededor del mundo conoce de Colombia son principalmente estereotipos y preconceptos. No obstante, también sé que los visitantes sensatos son conscientes de lo que estoy hablando y, estoy segura, estarán de acuerdo con esto.

I hope we can build a modern version of that in places across the world, humans in harmony with nature across a variety of communities with different lifestyles all devoted to peace with their neighbors. “Humans are capable of such ugliness” some say but they are also capable of beautiful things. It’s all up to us.
I’m a bit busy with things on the other side of the world but I love to see the Spanish speaking community grow at hive, especially those connected to the natural medicine community and art and music. One day I’ll have to visit Columbia and Venezuela, I imagine the people I want to visit will increase a lot, the longer I’m on this platform. 😉
Yes, we have to stay with the beautiful and what is in harmony with nature. Being in war, on the other hand, seems to be part of human nature, isnt it?... I'm not sure. If Europeans had't come (in 1496), for example, whether the Incas, or the Aztecas or so would have swallowed these nations throught wars and submission, anyway. But at least the harmony with nature was intact, it seems, and that's where we must go back.
