Travel and Discover! The Bratislava metro is a legend and a dream of Slovakia. Trails of abandoned places.

in Cross Culture3 years ago

Warm sunny greetings from Slovakia. And today again a little interesting about the small country of Greater Europe. I invite you to a short trip to an abandoned place in Slovakia. We go to the capital in the city of Bratislava. After all, this is where the legend and dream of this country lies. Our path lies to the subway. But this is not quite true. This place was once supposed to be the same meter, but something prevented it from being completed.

The authorities have long wanted to build a subway in Bratislava and unload ground traffic, in the early 1980s. They decided to build in the area of Petrazhalka. Very quickly, architects and builders developed a plan, estimate, proposals. But that's almost the end of it. In 1985, they began building a depot, but by the end of the year all work had been suspended. Later, 5 years later, there was a second attempt. But it was also a failure.

More than 5 years have passed. In 1997, the city authorities revised the project and decided to change it and create a so-called "light metro". According to the new project, the metro was not to be underground, but ground. And what do you think? Yes, and this project was unsuccessful. Construction was suspended again. According to some reports, the length of the underground line was to be more than 107 kilometers and connect some cities.

There are several reasons why the metro was never built in Bratislava. One of the reasons is that the city of Prague (Czech Republic) at that time was a city of millions, and Bratislava (Slovakia) had only 300,000 inhabitants. The second reason is the fall of the socialist regime. Other reasons are that construction is expensive and technically demanding.

Today we can see a double tunnel, which is about 300 meters long. Why this city remained a dream and a legend for the locals. Where was the mistake, why could no project be completed? Since then, almost half a century in Slovakia has not been built subway. Some people have no idea what it is.

Maybe the subway is not needed here at all, because Slovakia is a very small country, Bratislava is a small city. The transport interchange across the country is at a very high level. But it seems to me that the subway could be the highlight of the capital. And yes, we can only walk through the tunnel. There used to be work and inspiration here. Today, on the walls of the unbuilt subway, some people leave pictures, others come and take pictures. But everyone who knows about this place still dreams that this tunnel would not be abandoned but completed.

If the government are determined and they have good minds towards the progress of that project, surely it will be completed. And very soon u will write about myself

This subway was to be built another 50 years ago. I don't think that will happen again. Why? There is no need for this anymore. Slovakia has a very excellent and convenient transport interchange.

Wow I see. There is now improvement in the system

It looks like so creepy spot but murals are great to explore...Maybe one day government will take steps to restore this subway who knows right...

Thank you)) But it seems to me that in Slovakia this will not happen)))

woww such great pictures

Now I know what to check in Bratislava! I love abandoned places! There is a whole movement called Urbex. It's about explorer peering through abandoned places, like archaeologists of the modern era!

Thank you)) I also love abandoned places)) Sometimes in such places it is very scary, but it attracts me))
