Cryptocurrency adoption is on the rise, and we recently had an exciting hands-on experience using Bitcoin (BTC) for a purchase in the heart of The Hague. With the help of the @V4Vapp, which seamlessly converts HIVE or HBD to BTC, we managed to buy a unique little Bitcoin-themed rubber duck for our studio. Here's how it all went down.
Exploring Voorlopig: A Hidden Gem in The Hague
Our adventure took us to VOORLOPIG, a charming gift shop located at Noordeinde 109 in The Hague’s city center. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by an array of unique and creative #gifts, catering to both young and old. The store lives by the motto: You can't buy happiness, but you can buy the perfect gift. And they certainly deliver on that promise.
The Perfect Studio Addition: A Bitcoin Duck
While browsing the store, we stumbled upon something that immediately caught our eye—a collection of small rubber ducks. Among them, one stood out: a duck sporting the #Bitcoin logo. Given our love for crypto and our mission to promote its real-world use, we knew this was the perfect addition to our studio. Not only would it serve as a fun decoration, but it would also be a symbol of our first in-person purchase using Bitcoin, made possible through HBD.
Making the Purchase: HBD to BTC in Seconds
With the #V4Vapp at hand, we initiated the payment process. The app allowed us to convert HBD directly to BTC, ensuring a seamless transaction. Here’s how it went:
- Selected our #BTC rubber duck at Voorlopig.
- Used the V4V app to send HBD, which was automatically converted into BTC.
- The transaction was completed in just three to four seconds—remarkably fast for a crypto payment!
- The store confirmed the successful transfer, and just like that, we had our new studio mascot!

The moment was exhilarating. The ability to spend #cryptocurrency in a physical store and witness the transaction happening in mere seconds was a game-changer. We couldn’t contain our excitement, celebrating our first Bitcoin purchase powered by Hive and HBD. Well if you ever go to a place where you can pay with BTC try the v4v app. Wd are super happy we are finally using it. Today we are again at another place 🤩
I think I have worked out how to use it by opening the v4v site in Keychain. I will looks for an opportunity. I'm just not very often in town where there may be places that can take it.
Didn't know about the BTC Map, there's a few places nearish to me including a Brazilian restaurant, I might try it out one day
update - spoke too soon, just googled them, closed permanenently.
It's a bit sparse around here. Some places in Bedford and Cambridge. Loads in London.

Just scan the QR in KeyChain app and ready to go, right?
You have to open V4V app on the Keychain 1st and scan the QR with V4V app and then you can choose to pay with HBD or HIVE :)

it is very interesting, because the price was calculated in Euros acording BTC exchange, and you pay with your hive tokens and the app made very quickly that exchange, from Hive to BTC, but I think it was a fee charge? or not?
Yes, but after recalculaying we got those fee charges automaticly back. Check out the payment transactions of @artakush 🙂

I love seeing HBD appearing in the "real world". I reckon it's one of the best tools for spreading the word.
But what I would really like to see is tools to easily allow more widespread adoption in e-commerce. There are very few websites indeed that allow payment in crypto, for all kinds of reasons. Seeing the HBD logo appearing all over the place (together with links to posts or pages that really explain it well and simply enough that non-crypto users can gain confidence in it) would definitely help.
But I appreciate designing the right tools to work smoothly with a whole slew of e-commerce platforms is a big project. The major advantages of HBD over other crypto's are zero fees and fast transactions, and that's definitely something we could leverage !
