Hello everyone, I hope you're having a good day. For today's blog I am glad to share about what we were doing at school. Today we have a schedule in WSTP Advance Machining 2, in this subject we were taught using different machines such as, Lathe machine, Pedestal Grinder and Milling machine. Our group was assigned to make a Bevel gear, to give info (Bevel gear is cone shaped gears which transmit motion between two intersecting shafts). Stay tuned and keep reading.

To start making Bevel gear we first cut a piece in a round metal bar, we will cut it based on the assigned length. The machines needed in making Bevel gear are the Lathe and Milling machines. Lathe machines are the one responsible in cutting the length and the diameter of the metal bar, while the Milling is the one who cut and makes the gear.

Before starting an operation you need first to practice safety protocols. The operator needs to wear a T-shirt and a long pants for body protection, he also needs to use safety gaggles when cutting or shaping a metal bar/ workpiece these are the do's in operating. The don'ts are you should take off your Id, necklace and watch, these are avoided since when operating the machine is rotating fast.

We were four in our group me, Tonton, Haggueo and mark. Most of them are skilled in using this machine. In making a Bevel gear we were given more than 8 weeks since we only have one milling machine and we were 6 groups in a class. The first thing we do in operating milling is to set up, the tools needed in operating are an Allen screwdriver, adjustable wrench, rubber mallet and the module( it is the one who cuts the metal).

After setting up the machine we need to work as a group, we have different assignments in working with milling machine, Mark is the one who is moving the workpiece, Tonton is the one making sure that the cut is evenly divided into equal teeth and I am assigned to make sure that the workpiece is not to much hot that why I am dropping the coolant to the workpiece. We alternately changes the assignment so that everyone will have a chance in performing the operation.

After we finished it they told me to shine the workpiece. I operate the machine and as you can see I am not wearing gaggles, it is okay because I am not cutting but making it shine by using sand paper. I only finished some of its part or tooth because we where told that our class was dismissed and we will finished it in another class meeting. Before we can go we make sure that the tools we borrow are clean and no one is missing since it is the requirements before we can get our Id's. The fun and enjoyment of this class was unmatched, it is one of our favorite classes since our skills in operating is being tested and enhanced.
