In the past, I've always heard the advice of "going with the flow" to mean that one should accept whatever it is, coming their way, yet these days, I think of it quite differently.

Not fighting against the current is more in line with how I find myself thinking about and expressing such a statement. You know... like as in water survival training…
One of the potential, life saving techniques when finding yourself adrift in a raging tide, is to swim with the current, gradually stroking towards shore, or river bank.
Now, this may not work in every situation, for every body of water, but in many cases, it can keep you from puttering out and sinking beneath the surface to your utter demise.
How this works out when faced with an angry mob coming at you from down the street with baseball bats in their hands... I don't know…??? I just haven't given all scenarios much thought...🤢 Turning and running in the same direction they are moving towards, is kind of like 'going with the flow' (I think???)
Anyway...
Since I really hate the kind of posts where people are lecturing about how WE should act, think and say according to what they profess to know… I'm bowing out from discussing the flow theory any further; less I become one of those jerks described above.
Listen, my friends... Be safe... Be prepared... While hoping and striving for the BEST...
Ciao

Mmmmmm....interesting scenario that you propose there..(the mob one)...
Maybe 'choosing your battles, in conjunction with going with the flow...?
I dunno, I'm rambling - too much caffeine this morning, methinks...
It's okay to ramble at times - lol...
Choosing our battles and the way we choose to fight, seems like sound advice.
I soooooooooooo wish I could take my own advice...doh!.......as I sit here, thinking up some 'disruptive' strategies..lol
😎
I hope to never see an angry mob. I know the WE mentality, we have to do something, meaning someone other than the person who used the term we.
Lol...Yes, WE often means 'YOU', especially when 'I' would if I could, but I can't so I shan't...😎
Thanks to see I'm not the only one thinking about every possible scenario haha
The mob problem is even if you stand still you are regarded as the enemy. The only option appears to be going with the flow and trying to protect others along the way of the mob while also protecting yourself. Fighting the mob is basically giving them what they ask for...
Thanks for responding @src3... You pose an interesting thought😎
An angry mob coming at you from down the street with baseball bats in their hands.
That's to late to start going with the flow .... somewhere in the recent past you must have already bin stirring up the flow . Like when you find yourself in the middle of a train track tunnel while a train is speeding at you . You entered this tunnel , with no info on when the train will come or how long this tunnel is . When the flow comes at you above a certain speed it will crush you .
Learn about the flow before you dive in ;-)
Oh, so many possibilities...and analogies... My poor little head is in a spin...😵
Short, sweet, and meaningful. Way to use the swimming analogy, sir. Nice to have you in my feed again, must mean recovery for your sis. Amen.
Thanks @dandays... My sis has been transferred to Mt. Sinai in Manhattan for further testing. They suspect Myeloma is at the root of the clot… It's a plasma cell malady which causes overgrowth of cells that crowd out red blood cells.
