Primer mandamiento (First Commandment)

No tener ídolos / Not to have idols

Saludos, hermanos de @mcgicares. En esta oportunidad voy a compartir con ustedes un mensaje que compartí hace unos días con unos hermanos y que forma parte de una serie de mensajes referidos a los diez mandamientos.

Éxodo 20:3 »No tengas ningún otro dios aparte de mí (NTV).
Éxodo 20:3 No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí (RV1960).
Éxodo 20:3 "No tendrás otros dioses delante de mí (Kadosh).
Éxodo 20:3 »No tengas otros dioses además de mí (NVI1999).

Tomando estas cuatro versiones podemos notar que el Señor ordena no colocar a nada ni nadie delante de Él, es decir, en el primer lugar de nuestras vidas, pero también vemos que no debe haber ningún otro dios para nosotros, lo que quiere decir que nada ni nadie debe ejercer un dominio sobre nosotros mayor que el que el Señor ejerce.

Veamos el concepto de ídolo, que es el término que usaremos para denotar a esa cosa o persona a la que le rendimos culto:

Figura o imagen que representa a un ser sobrenatural y al que se adora y se rinde culto como si fuera la divinidad misma. "los ídolos encontrados son representaciones antropomórficas en roca"
Persona o cosa por la que se siente un amor o admiración excesivos. "su ídolo ciclista"

Podemos ver que un ídolo es una figura de autoridad a la que se le rinde adoración, se le honra y se le toma más en cuenta a la hora de tomar alguna decisión.

De manera sencilla podemos mencionar algunos ídolos que pueden estar en nuestra vida:

Imágenes religiosas, las cuales pueden ser fotos, dibujos, estatuas, muñecos y demás cosas usadas como amuleto en la que colocamos nuestra esperanza, confianza e incluso le hablamos como si pudieran oír, adjudicándole las obras del Espíritu Santo como dar vida, sanidad, o cualquier otra respuesta a nuestras peticiones. De estas dice el Apóstol Pablo que al rendirles culto, se le rinde culto a los demonios. Leamos el siguiente pasaje:

1 Corintios 10: 19 ¿Qué es lo que trato de decir? ¿Que la comida ofrecida a ídolos tiene alguna importancia o que los ídolos son dioses verdaderos? 20 No, de ninguna manera. Lo que digo es que esos sacrificios se ofrecen a los demonios, no a Dios. Y no quiero que ustedes tengan parte con los demonios. 21 Ustedes no pueden beber de la copa del Señor y también de la copa de los demonios. No pueden comer de la Mesa del Señor y también de la mesa de los demonios. 22 ¿Qué? ¿Acaso nos atreveremos a despertar los celos del Señor? ¿Piensan que somos más fuertes que él?

Personas, que son aquellas a quienes hemos puesto en un lugar de autoridad en nuestra vida, entre los que podemos mencionar a padres, esposos, hijos, jefes, líderes políticos, entre otros, a quienes les damos el primer lugar cuando desobedecemos los mandamientos del Señor para complacer a esas personas. Un ejemplo común es el de asistir a los carnavales para complacer a alguno de los mencionados, cuando nos sentamos a emborracharnos, a fumar, a chismear, a mentir para favorecer a alguien, entre otros.

Actividades, que son las más difíciles de dejar porque están arraigadas en nuestro ego, y las hacemos incluso entendiendo que van en contra de los mandamientos, como sucede con asistir a las loterías que hacen en las calles, celebraciones de ídolos, bautizos de niños, leer el horóscopo y cualquier otra actividad que tiene que ver con idolatría, hechicería o perversidad.

Concluimos entonces que el Señor está diciendo: No pongas nada ni a nadie entre tú y yo para que no hagas lo que no te conviene.

Taking these four versions we can notice that the Lord commands not to place anything or anyone else before Him, that is, in the first place in our lives, but we also see that there should be no other gods for us, which means that nothing or anyone else should exercise a dominion over us greater than that which the Lord exercises.

Let us look at the concept of idol, which is the term we will use to denote that thing or person we worship:

A figure or image representing a supernatural being and which is worshipped and adored as if it were divinity itself. "the idols found are anthropomorphic representations in rock."
Person or thing for which excessive love or admiration is felt. "his cycling idol"

We can see that an idol is an authority figure that is worshipped, honored and taken more into account when making some decision.

In a simple way we can mention some idols that can be in our life:

Religious images, which can be pictures, drawings, statues, dolls and other things used as amulets in which we place our hope, trust and even talk to them as if they could hear, awarding them the works of the Holy Spirit such as giving life, healing, or any other response to our requests. Of these the Apostle Paul says that by worshiping them, we worship the demons. Let us read the following passage:

1 Corinthians 10: 19 What am I trying to say, that food offered to idols has any significance or that idols are true gods? 20 No, by no means. What I am saying is that those sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don't want you to have any part with the demons. 21 You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and also from the cup of demons. You cannot eat from the table of the Lord and also from the table of demons. 22 What, dare we dare to arouse the jealousy of the Lord? do they think that we are stronger than he?

People, who are those whom we have put in a place of authority in our life, among whom we can mention parents, spouses, children, bosses, political leaders, among others, to whom we give the first place when we disobey the Lord's commandments to please those people. A common example is attending carnivals to please any of the above, when we sit down to get drunk, to smoke, to gossip, to lie to favor someone, among others.

Activities, which are the most difficult to give up because they are rooted in our ego, and we do them even understanding that they go against the commandments, such as attending lotteries in the streets, idol celebrations, child baptisms, reading the horoscope and any other activity that has to do with idolatry, sorcery or perversity.

We conclude then that the Lord is saying: Do not put anything or anyone between you and me so that you do not do what is not convenient for you.
