Hay una parte del jardín que es mucho más soleada y seca.
Las plantas que allí he plantado generalmente no crecen bien. Es frecuente que, tras un día de mucho calor, las plantas se marchiten y se sequen. Por eso, decidí plantar en esa zona una colección de cactus.
El año pasado, me regalaron algunos cactus distintos y elegí esa zona especial para ellos. Afortunadamente, allí están creciendo muy bien y no han necesitado de muchos cuidados ni de atención.
Tanto los cactus como las plantas crasas son familia de la suculentas. Cada una de ellas ha evolucionado distinto, dependiendo de las condiciones climáticas.
Los cactus se han adaptado a terrenos desérticos. Para ello, curiosamente, han transformado sus hojas en espinas.
Los espinas no sólo protegen sino que también tienen una función de fotosíntesis y, además, capturan pequeñas gotas del rocío mañanero.
Me había olvidado de estos pequeños cactus que planté y no les había prestado mucha atención hasta que, a primeros de Agosto, descubrí que uno de ellos, el más pequeño y delgado, había florecido.
Me fijé que el cactus había echado unas pequeñitas flores del tamaño de un centímetro y de color rojo. Le hice algunas fotos que quiero mostraros.
Como todas las flores de los cactus duraron muy poco, apenas un día.
He investigado y he comprobado que el nombre del cactus que he fotografiado es una Akersia roseiflora (también llamada Cleistocactus samaipatanus). Es un cactus con forma de columnas que pueden llegar a medir entre 90 y 150 cm de largo y un grosor de 2,5 a 5 cm de diámetro.
La Akersia es una especie que proviene de Bolivia y que, actualmente, se ha difundido por todo el mundo.
Dicen que la Akersia florece a finales de la primavera o principios de verano. Sin embargo, en Tenerife lo hicieron por primera vez en Agosto y hace unos pocos días disfruté una segunda floración también muy espléndida. El clima en Canaria suele ser templado y he observado que ha florecido, justamente, en los momentos de más calor.
Como todas las flores de cactus, tienen una forma muy especial y llamativa que contrasta con la forma austera de la planta. En concreto, me ha llamado la atención la gran cantidad de estambres apretados, como los cigarrillos de un paquete de tabaco.
Espero que os haya gustado esta efímera flor tanto como a mí . A veces, lo más maravilloso se encuentra descuidado a nuestro lado...
An Akersia in my garden.
There is a part of the garden that is much sunnier and drier.
The plants I have planted there generally do not grow well. Plants often wilt and dry out after a very hot day. So I decided to plant a collection of cacti in that area.
Last year, they gave me a few different cacti and I chose that special area for them. Fortunately, they are growing very well there and have not needed much care or attention.
Both cacti and succulents are the succulent family. Each of them has evolved differently, depending on the weather conditions.
Cacti have adapted to desert terrain. To do this, curiously, they have transformed their leaves into thorns.
The thorns not only protect but also have a photosynthetic function and, in addition, they capture small drops of the morning dew.
I had forgotten about these little cacti that I planted and I hadn't paid much attention to them until, in early August, I discovered that one of them, the smallest and thinnest, had blossomed.
I noticed that the cactus had produced tiny flowers the size of a centimeter and red in color. I took some photos that I want to show you.

Cómo lo hago
Hice las fotografías con mi iPhone X. Para la edición utilicé la aplicación Snapseed y para la firma digital usé la App Watermark.
Los dibujos los hice en el iPad con el programa Sketches.
For the photography I use my iPhone X. For edition I use the Snapseed application and for the digital signature the Watermark app.
Everything I did on my mobile phone, I did not use the computer at all.
For the drawings, I use the Sketches program and paint them on the tablet.
