Visiting A Theme Park In Winter?❄️ More Options Than One Would've Gathered #DashOutSunday

in ReggaeJAHMlast year

Ever been to the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands? About fifteen to twenty years ago, I went with my parents and siblings during a Summer vacation and around that age all I wanted to do was try out every adrenaline ride there was.

Now that was Summer, but in December 2022 during one of my first Sundays - the coldest week that time around - in the Netherlands we were invited to visit Efteling. First I was excited and then it dawned on me: it's my first winter and I'm still acclimating and it's the coldest week. Roller coasters are out of the question!

But we didn't fret for long, as there's so much to do and see: Efteling has enough to offer, for every age group and for every comfort zone. One of the attractions I didn't get to see much of in the Summer was the Fairytale forest (Sprookjesbos in Dutch) and some of the "kiddy" (safer) rides. Do you know which picture belongs to which fairytale?

So we ventured out into the Fairytale forest and tried to visit every story as much as we could've till lunchtime. We strolled along, while getting our (meaning my) inner child out and had a laugh during the whole route. Like falling when trying to pose or trying the children's climbing area and enjoying the swing set. One is never too old for a swing if you ask me, unless you don't fit.

We even got to see a live open theater show. It was a fictitious piece, that takes place in medieval times, with horses, knights, ravens and even some "magic". It was a breathtaking (literally with a fire breathing dragon) spectacle. Only downside is that the script is in Dutch. On the flipside: one doesn't need to understand the language to follow the piece, as the scenes portray the story seamlessly.

When it was time for lunch we gathered at a pancake restaurant, as it was in the center of the various attractions. Regular (sweetened) pancakes are a normalcy in Suriname, so we wanted to try a savory one this time. Ham, mushroom and cheese pancake for @rarej and chicken shawarma, paprika, arugula with garlic sauce for me. The last one seemed to be the better order one person noted.

After lunch, we contemplated what to do next. There was going to be a light show in the evening that I wanted to see, but I was still adjusting to the cold and felt the jetlag creeping in, so we decided to head home. It was the best decision, as I fell right asleep when my head rested on the chair.

All in all, a great adventure in the cold. Who would've known visiting a theme park in the winter has enough options. We still didn't get to see or do everything there is though. Ever been to a theme park in the cold? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.

The last time I went to theme park in the cold one of my twins caught chicken pox and passed it on to me and you know how that is with adults 😂

Those are some strange pancakes in my book, I usually have the usual calorie king, butter or syrup or both.

The park looks spectacular, I saw the little mermaid ( well the mermaid story), the long hair princess, I think her name is Rapunzel? And the other looks like little red riding hood ?

Glad you are getting settled in, probably will never get used to the cold with our island blood 😂

Oh that is the worst! 🙈

Yeah, Dutch pancakes are more akin to crêpes if you ask me. I also enjoy the thicker "American" version. Joel usually makes those, while I make the crêpes.

The first two are right, but I also forgot the name of the third 😅. I know I've read the story at least once when I was younger, but not enough to let it stick.
