Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to my blog! I have been buying cards recently to improve my deck. I posted about Ulundin Overseer that I bought in my Community Engagement Challenge. My other purchases were Abyssal Elemental and Kavor Skarn.

After this purchase I was able to level up Kavor to four and Abyssal Elemental to two. Today's post is about Abyssal Elemental.

Lore

Abyssal Elementals were summoned by Jicarilla the Rime. She leads the conclave’s search in the Wild Northeast, summoning storms to unearth the secret of Praetoria and drown anyone who dares oppose her.
From the depths of the Elemental Plane of Water, abyssal elementals rise, formless beings of raw aquatic power. Jicarilla the Rime conjures them in waves, their bodies flooding the land, carving rivers through dry earth, and crushing anything in their path.
They feel no fear, no hunger, only the inexorable pull of Jicarilla’s command. As long as she holds dominion over the tides, they will rise, drown, and destroy any who stand between her and the secret of Praetoria.
Stats and Abilities

At maxed level, the Abyssal Elemental deals three magic damage and has three speed. It has decent defensive stats with three armor and six health. What sets it apart is its Resurgence ability, being able to resurrect once per battle with full health and armor. All buffs remain while debuffs are removed. That's pretty tanky stuff. It also deals melee damage upon resurrection. At maxed level it also gains the Burst ability.
My Abyssal Elemental was upgraded to two after I bought more copies. It increased its magic attack to two which was a huge deal in my league.
Role in Battle and Rulesets

The Abyssal Elemental will be great rulesets where magic and non melee units are needed like Keep Your Distance or Wands Out. It will also be great in Armored Up or Thick Skinned where physical attacks are decreased. As for its role, it will be a good tank in magic teams. It's deals decent damage and has good defense. It's Resurgence ability makes it especially beefy. It also does damage to the enemy team when it resurrects.
Featured Battles

The battle was fought between two magic teams. Both my team and the enemy's have strong magic attackers. Our difference is he used the Ulundin Overseer as a primary tank and paired by Commander Slade as second tank. My main tank was Commander Slade followed by an all magic team including the Abyssal Elemental. My team included Mystic Scaleweaver that deals two magic damage and slows down the enemy. The enemy had it too but his Scaleweaver was level two and deals three magic damage. The offensive composition of both teams means that whoever destroys the other first wins. My team won by a hair's breadth due to the extra life of Abyssal Elemental who was able to absorb some attacks

Against teams with no defense against magic, the Abyssal Elemental can carry the battle. Magic teams are generally highly offensive but are glass cannons, meaning they get destroyed easily. With Abyssal Elemental in the team, the team gets a magic, beefy tank that not only sustains itself but also does extra damage doing so. This battle was fought against a legendary archon against my Frontier archon leading a magic team. The enemy team had great buffs with an additional two to its health and had Divine Shield ability. However, even this strong defense was overcome by my magic team's offense.
Final Thoughts

The Abyssal Elemental is a key card if you're forming a Water magic team. Its combination of offense and tanky defense will win you battles even against stronger enemies. My strategy to obtain it was to wait for prices to drop down and I swooped in once it reached my target price. I was able to buy my copies at seventy five cents or below. Maybe it could still go down but I'm already happy with the price compared to what it contributes in my battles.
