As I was on a mission to read stuff on South East Asia and where to go and what to do, I stumbled upon this article which was comparing Bali to Thailand what the differences were and what was better.
I was puzzled by this. This is as saying 'France or Germany, where to go.' or maybe even 'Marocco versus Namibia, where to go'. Comparing two different countries is just stupid, as all of them have their own climate, religion, rules, nature, regulations, culture and whatever. Comparing this feels like comparing food. 'What do you like more about food? Pancakes or French Fries', two non comparable things. But who am I.....
But because of this I was scrolling through some old pictures of Bali where I attended a wedding a couple years ago of some Indian friends. This wedding lasted 4 days which meant it was a good reason to stay a bit longer in Bali and travel around for a bit by scooter.
And admittingly...I really liked Bali and I had a good time there as the island has some really good vibes. The food was awesome, getting out of town was awesome, and ofcourse the main reason why I was there for the 4 day wedding was just really impressive I must admit.
But I didn't like that much was how touristy some of the spots were, and how shouty and load the audience was. Ofcourse when you are on the beach and with some music and some drinks watching the sun go down, honestly I am not bothered and lets face it....I am the a tourist who acts like one just as much.
One difference ...I try to respect the place, the people and the culture, and I was shocked how some people from other countries really didn't give a crap.
Bali was beautiful, easpecially the most Northern part. Where a lot of people stop at Ubud and tend to stay there, we drove lot through the more Northern part and I really was enthousiastic on how green it was and how everything in the hills was feeling.
There are a lot more waterfalls to find there when you step a bit outside of the first one you run in to, and the first thing on my mind here was the island of Dominica in the Caribbean, land of the 365 rivers. On that island there were so many waterfalls....Wait nevermind, I am comparing as well right?
I really liked Bali and especially the Northern part and I have warm feelings when looking back on all of the ceremonies we witnessed and all of the little sacrifices that are made everywhere.
It feels peaceful, it feels like not comparing it to something else. Stop comparing
I've been to Bali too. I like Ubud but not the overly touristy place like Kota.

Can't wait to go back. Most of Australia heading back this year. Lots of friends going. It's our backyard after all. They spent a lot of time cleaning it up during pandemic. There ARE places much quieter than the south and Ubud.
Exactly. So many better places but the majority never reaches there. Kuta bali was my first experience with rowdy aussies and I was not siked with it.
But indeed, closeby so easy access! (Still 6 hours right?)
