Santa Monica, California

Santa Monica appears at first like only a place for tourists, fun, and the crowds that go with it. It extends over a large area, however, and there is a great deal more to it. The beach itself is quite long; extending from Dogtown to the Pier to the Palisades. Palisade Park abuts the beach and can be a lovely walk; depending on how often you are harassed by strangers.

The beach itself has more and less populated areas; so a person has much to chose from. It is fun to rent a bike and ride it along the shoreline; taking in the sights as you go.

You might even come upon a seagull playing soccer.

Or buy an NFT of one if you do not want to leave the house.

The Santa Monica Pier is where you go if you are in the mood for crowds and fun. I like the fun but not so much the crowds; so I do not go often. It does have an inspiring vibe though; if your heart needs that kind of lifting.

"The 3rd Street Promenade", a long row of shops and restaurants, is also a tourist draw. It is a fun and safe place to walk at night: unlike nearby Venice; which is best seen during the day. There are many street performers, singers, dancers and other artists. On the weekends it feels like the mother of all block parties. I always find something unique when I go.

I had some nicer pictures but can't find them. They have quite a few sculptures and fountains throughout the area that are worth a gander. This guy here is a human sculpture.

Frankly I prefer the side-streets and strolling Main Street toward Venice; there are so many interesting restaurants and hidden corners.

You can also take a short drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy the bars, restaurants and beaches that are a little further out.

There are also all kinds of little neighborhoods in Santa Monica that don't really advertise, Montana Avenue, Sawtelle and other areas that you really have to look to find. I would highly recommend BERGAMOT STATION ARTS CENTER A very large complex with a plethora of art galleries and a cafe. Make sure you go when the Galleries are open; during the pandemic the times might be even more limited. I see there is a little village nearby I have not been to yet; perhaps I will investigate!!!
