Normally I write about the city in which I live, Melbourne and it's amazing street art but this time we are travelling to Australia's most Northern city - Darwin, which is almost closer to Singapore than it is to Melbourne.

But like Melbourne it has a heap of very cool street art and I'm going to show you some of it in this here post.

The first is above and something you might have seen before - it's painted in 3-D - the 'Van' is actually a electric substation box.

One thing you have to admire is the scale of the artworks. They are not messing about here, if they do something it's a least a couple of storeys high - I think this is likely for two reasons, firstly the city is a little less dense than Melbourne so you can view from further away and secondly these pieces are sanctioned in the main and therefore you have time to set up cherry pickers and what not to paint.

Perhaps not surprisingly if you understand the history of the Northern Territory (the 'state' except it's not a state it's a territory, which is complicated in which Darwin is located) is the strong indigenous themes. Just under 10% of Darwin's population is Aboriginal Australians (many are the Larrakia people, the traditional owners of the area of Darwin) Although this is now respected and celebrated in the main as you can imagine they have be wronged for the 200 odd years since the white men turned up.

Look at the scale of this work - which by the way is actually two works done a year apart. Sofies did the work on the right and Melbourne based artist CTO did the man on the left. (I've actually photographed a heap of CTO's work in Melbourne before)

Let's stick with the indigenous theme for the last piece, with this amazing piece - again the scale is amazing and the combination of traditional styles of painting and modern portraiture is fantastic

Australia is itself a continent. Its definitely one of world's most beautiful place where one should go and explore its beauty
