Guamá, still a vivid memory

in Throwback Thursday2 years ago

When I look at these photos that you will see below I can only think of joy. It was one of those unforgettable days, which I lived intensely and then over the years, I remember them with happiness, but also with a lot of nostalgia because perhaps I am in need of adventures of this kind.

DSC02111.JPG

The people involved in the trip for various reasons are no longer close to me. However, I keep these images with much affection and when I look at them so many memories come to my mind, so many laughs... but life is like that and everyone does not stay. We are simply birds of passage.

DSC02208.JPG

As it turns out, this happened in 2008. My friends and I went on an excursion to Villa Guamá in the Zapata Swamp. And it was a surprise that my partner at the time had prepared for me.

I remember that she woke me up in the morning in a hurry and had everything ready, breakfast, some combinations of clothes for me to wear the one I liked the most and everything was so funny, I did not know where she wanted to take me. But she was a little angry with me for my slowness, imagine, there was a risk of missing the bus if I didn't hurry.

Everything went well... we arrived early at the pick-up point. And what made me laugh the most was meeting all the other participants of the adventure, who, when they saw the bus appear, covered my eyes so I wouldn't see the sign.

I was very sleepy anyway, I fell asleep, I snored, I drooled like a little girl, until at some point during the trip someone on the bus said: And Guamá is so far away?

More laughter... my friends told that person that she had spoiled the surprise. Then the jokes started and it turned out that on the bus we were all talking as if we had known each other all our lives.

Of course, I didn't fall asleep anymore.

The fun part was to get to the Taino village by boat through the Laguna del Tesoro. Since there were so many of us, they separated us into two speedboats and it was a total blast.

Let me tell you the details of the place we visited.

DSC02152.JPG

It had its opening many years ago, in 1962. I don't know how it is now, I hope it is well preserved. We visited the Batey Aborigen, which is located on an islet, about 8 kilometers from the pier of Villa Guamá. This is in Matanzas, and is one of the main destinations in that province, along with Varadero.

The place was recreated with sculptures made by a great plastic artist of our country, her name is Rita Longa. She displayed through these pieces the life of our aborigines in their diverse daily activities such as hunting, fishing, gathering and the elaboration of pottery objects. They can also be observed in moments of leisure and even in their religious rites.

DSC02151.JPG

This work is located, as I said, in a natural environment, wood and guano cabins were built to make the whole scene look more real. These "bohíos" were the characteristic constructions of these aboriginal groups, among which were the Tainos and the Siboneyes. The Tainos are considered the oldest community in Cuba. I remember that in one cabin we found a big surprise... and we joked a lot about it. This (real) aborigine received many compliments that day.

It looks like whoever took this picture was a little nervous...lol.

In Guamá you can do many interesting activities (as you can see 😜) such as hiking, bird watching... 🤣... oh god, I'm already wanting to go there, and other activities like time travel, of course, because it is an excursion in which it is possible to learn first hand about our origins.

DSC02174.JPG

This type of trip also allows us to connect with other people, as it is an excursion in which we go in groups and, therefore, it is very pleasant to spend moments of relaxation and enjoy them to the fullest, taking advantage of every sensation, in contact with nature.

Amiga, I am happy to see you here with this wonderful publication. There are too many experiences in a single day, for me it would also be an unforgettable event in my memory. Just the fact of sailing a few meters in a boat is enough to make it unforgettable, as it is something I don't usually do much. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many sculptures, and I laughed a lot at the face of the aborigine, I do not know if he liked being photographed hahaha... Wonderful memories, loved your happy face in your photo. Happy day Nanix! 😘

Hello friend, thank you very much for the feedback and your always warm words. I love you a big hug. True, just riding a speedboat was pure fun... the aborigine was enjoying himself with so many women flirting with him. 😂

I also thank @OurPick project for their support. ✨

It is a trip not to forget , even I would like to take a little trip like that, with such beautiful landscapes 🌹🌷💐🌺🌸💮🏵️🌼🌻🎄🎄☘️.

Then it's too late... take a break! Thanks @taniagonzalez 🤗

In 2009 we went, Oli was very small and ran all over the area, beautiful place. I keep as you, beautiful memories of that visit that included other also spectacular ones. To remember is to live again.

We have to go, don't we? I know that to remember is to live again, but we can still update those memories. Fill them with freshness and more fun.

True, it is a marvel. I hope to return because as you can see, it's been a long time since I went.

No photos from the Crocodile Farm? 😱

Good you have that lagoon close to your home so you can maybe find them there when you go birdwatching 😉

So beautiful post @nanixxx, with joyful memories! 👏

Hahaha... My lagoon. Hopefully there are no crocodiles there, no...no. That would be too much.

Thank you mipiano. I am happy to share my memories in this community.

What a coincidence I wrote a post related to the colonization and I was remember when I was to this place next to the church, but I lost the photo, thanks for share those shoots.

Oh, too bad you can't find the picture. It always happens to me because I am very organized hahaha.... And then to top it all off, a hard drive broke.

Glad you enjoyed this post.

Regards @babyl 😉

Guamá is beautiful. The cabins are behind the lagoon and under the fish, it is exciting to go to that place and think how our aborigines lived.
Beautiful experience we have to make a trip your dad, you and me. We will surely have a lot of fun. Don't you think so? I love you.❤️

Pues sí que sería muy divertido darnos una escapada los tres, sabes que siempre lo pasamos genial. 🤪

Te quiero mucho Mamani

Happy memories, weird sculptures and vintage video cameras!! how cool is that. nice upload @nanixxx

vintage video cameras

😁 Oh, yes! That was the first video camera I had, with which I made my debut as a videographer... a Sony.

Best regards!

I have still got my old dad's vid. camera in the loft, jesus it is massive, and probably not as powerful as a moby these days.

Very good post, a place full of art and nature!... Thank you for taking us on a trip in your memories @nanixxx friend!...

What a trip!!!! It is an incredible adventure, I loved the sculptures, I can't deny it, I looked at them and looked at them, in the middle of so much nature. You have to come back! I want more pictures!🤣

Another picture?

DSC02189.JPG

That place is a paradise!!! I love the photography, thank you!!!

You're welcome, I'm glad you like it. 🤗

You look great next to the sculpture!!!

Wao, these are fascinating surprises, a trip to a splendid place full of nature and history, what a beautiful trip, somebody ruined the surprise but well, small details hahaha 😂

Nuuu I wanted to see the crocodiles, you owe me, ok no hahahaha

What a great trip, I can tell you enjoyed it to the fullest, those pictures on the boat are beautiful, I love boats ❤️

The crocodiles... I can go get them somewhere for you. I hope they don't show up in my neighborhood pond.

A hug my lovely owl

I love boats ❤️

You'd go all plucked up in that speedboat. 😅

The aboriginal received many praises!!!! 😅...

This bringing up the past in these posts makes me nostalgic, and look what I am resistant for nostalgia!!! But Guamá brings out very deep things in me and a little tear is already running down my cheek.

That surprise trip is the most beautiful thing you can give!!! I call that, the treasure chest of the soul. 🙏

Ah, memories are like that...they make you tear up sometimes. But what we have to do is to go there, all of us cuhivers! 😍

Ayyyyyyy.... my angel..... how much I would like it. Everyone is in a survival plan and these things will have to wait...The desire is there, the infrastructure and the energy are not yet. . But I have hope 🙏

@nanixxx I don't have a computer, and I see the photos as very small on my phone, but I can tell you that they look full of light, color and joy. A hug

Universe, @enraizar must have a PC, give it to him.

It's already ordered for you. You'll get it, just wait for the stars to align.

A hug coming back!

Thank you very much for your good thoughts, for now I have to learn to live without the computer for a few days. I wish you a Merry Christmas with the people you love, although perhaps not everyone can be present. Un Abrazo
