Can you summarize "religion" for all audiences?

in Synergy Builders23 hours ago

So many years ago now, I was asked to do an interview about religion. Now I had done some comparative religion studies - talking to people and always eager to visit a new "church" or "mass" - I think in terms of Christian denominations I may have been to them all at this point, even the weird South American ones.

And since it was for my great and long time friend, a hiver himself @jozefkrichards, I did it one day, on the 5th floor terrace of an abandoned grain mill in my small town of Libano, Tolima. Oh yeah - he came to me!

Literal interpretation of some of the parts of the Bible... I think you are missing the point

It was many years ago now, I had thought I did pretty good, but when my friend reached out to me, and shared that he was republishing the videos on a new channel - a youtube channel that was actually getting traction for once! - I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Would ten years younger me make a fool out of myself? Trying to walk the line with "religion", which everyone knows is a bit of a "hot topic", would I stagger?

Well, you tell me!

I think I did pretty good, and I was especially happy with my conclusion.

We as humans need to be better, and we can be

Beliefs are like programming, and asking about how "true" or "historical" it is, probably is not the right question. What we really want to know is - does the programming "work", work for us as humans. In my opinion, the decisive conclusion of religion is - We need to be better, and we can be.

Are you becoming a better version of yourself today? If not, why not?

Have you identified some or all of the programming that makes your mental life "you"? We are not ideas, ideas are not "ours" and we are constantly changing. Perhaps the most "sticky" part of our existence is the very mental programming we are talking about. And there are a lot of interesting conversations about this happening around AI right now as well. But let's start with what we can control.

Programming matters - whether or not you are aware of it. Whatever you feel about "religion", I would be open to your feedback of how I performed, these so many years ago, in my interview about one of the hottest and trickiest topics in human existence, religion.

Freedom and Friendship

I think that you did quite well with explaining religions from multiple perspectives, which is great, because looking through the lens of different perspectives, and then cross-referencing and reconciling them with each other, is a means of coming to a more accurate, whole perspective. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

I applaud the way you approach the topic from various perspectives, all equally important in encouraging the necessary reflection.
Thank you for sharing!

Given both our ... "history 😉" ... @ecoinstant, as well as your chosen topic for this post, I both read it and watched the YT video referenced in it.

First, the easy part.  "10 years ago you" makes a favorable impression.  Reinforcing what many here on this blockchain have come to understand about who you are.

Beyond that, how (if at all!) to respond.  Succinctly.  To the point ... 🤔  What's the point? 😉  As a disciple of Jesus Christ, I'll see what I can do with applying my old (to myself) concept of "ABC, 123" approach to writing ...

Three points:

  1. There is ONE God. Only ONE. Isaiah 45:22.  Eliminates the ... "competition" ...

  2. ☝️ What does this ONE God have to say to planet earth? About the single most important topic with which we will ever be faced? Acts 4:12.  Eliminates ... "works righteousness" ...

  3. Truly understanding what is good, what is right, what is true? ☝️ What did the most important person in human history have to say to us? John 16:13.  Eliminates ... "passing the comprehension test" ...

I'll close with (reinforcing the last point) citing the Book of the Bible you referenced reading the most yourself. The Book of Proverbs. Proverbs 3:5-7.

P.S.  A response now "immutably enshrined" in a ... "blockchain" ... on the ... "world wide web" ...  A what?  Where?  What on earth?  Exactly.  A question I wish we both, Alex, might be able to ... "magically" ... sit down with our Heavenly Father and hear His answer ...
