So you like to gamble? Tavern Games (and Art Contest Update)

Rolling dice is a major past time of mine, a hobby you might say. I loved statistics and probability a lot as a kid, a kid who enjoyed math in general, and in a very real way that is what led me to my first tabletop game. The GM was a senior in my Statistics math class, which I was taking as a highschool junior - and before long I found myself rolling dice at a neighborhood card shop, playing something called "Hackmaster".

Now Hackmaster started off as a joke - a parody - in a time before the OGL came out - in fact, it was due to struggles like this, around that time (1999), that the OGL was finally published originally in 2000. You can read more on the wikipedia.

The fact that Hackmaster exists at all, and was around in book form for me to play it - is a testament to open source development - one that has had a profound impact in my life.

And in the spirit of "Open", we have released the first "room" of our new and improved TheCrazyGM.com site - the Tavern!. Here, blockchain-based proveably fair dice can be rolled (and with this intro, you might have some idea of where we are going with this!). And yes, we started with releasing some games, gamblin' games.

All of our HiveTools can now be found on tools.crypto-dreamr.com if you are looking for them.

As @thecrazygm has mentioned (make sure you follow him! He's interesting!), we have worked very hard on our unified log-in system, a solid and integrated userdb that will be very important moving forward.

There has been a lot of talk around the chain about onboarding and account management/user retention - I don't have anything to "add" to this conversation today, except to say "Yes, we know, we won't make the same mistakes with our app".

So if you are up for it - make an account with email to access the tavern!

Wait - email?

Yes. We use email instead of Hive account for login, and this is so that we will be able to actually onboard new users (see previous section). But I get it, doing things in a new way is not always understood - and probably we are still figuring out how to explain it. I will give it another try:

Users don't really care or understand the nuances of "authentication", in my experience generally users they expect that we should make apps the way it has always been done. On HIVE, this means keychain login - and we have made a whole site like this, by the way. And I see it, like this guy, who I think is somewhat of a long-term hiver - @meesterboom. He never actulally made an account, which would have allowed him to link his HIVE account (assuming that is what he wanted to do 🤷‍♀). Anyone can link a HIVE account, if they want! Its just not 1) necessary to start nor 2) the first thing you have to do.

Our discord bot let's you link your discord account - whether or not a user has a HIVE account (and whether or not the HIVE account you do have is linked to us or not). Its HIVE-integrated, but HIVE-agnostic.

You can use a fake email (just don't forget your password), but I am pretty much over any complaints about email, seeing as we can all have as many as we want, can create free ones, and also already give them away to any tech billionaire with a new app, or any app we download to our phone. Its not a big deal, no matter what gut reaction some HIVE/crypto users might have - its a dying optic, that is clear, so I really cannot weigh heavily the "concern" about using an email.

You could do all this stuff from the command line too (thanks to @thecrazygm), but does anybody really? (just @thecrazygm 🤣)

So, is this "on HIVE" or not?

YES. Gold = in-game HIVE. Its that easy.

Give it a try, new accounts get 100 gold just for signing up, and testing. You can link your account in our discord and test in your browser or with our discord bot!

And you can verify all rolls with the Seer - here is the verification of that very win:

A lot of math and work has gone into this - we use the HIVE blockchain to make sure our dice are proveably fair - to me this is a quite interesting and creative use for the HIVE blockchain! I don't know how to let people know that, but I guess this post is my next best attempt.

We would love some testers, since its release we have had so far.... checks notes, zero testers. Just the discord visit from @meesterboom, which I really do appreciate, since it is becoming more and more clear that "communication" is really our deepest issue, as I think many people agree that "someone" should do something "different"; but imagine if I didn't even get that feedback, what I might be imagining about the usefulness of the HIVE community.

Active Art Contest!

I have an active art contest open - to make an image of a gorilla-bear who is really a Bliss Dragon "on the inside". I have gotten a lot of great submissions, and I will put together a post this week about what I like so far, maybe give out some preliminary incentives, and keep it going. So if you are interested in the challenge - there is still time, I haven't yet found the perfect image.

Thanks to everyone out there, friends, allies and aquaintances - its been a long summer and now we are into Q4 - and we are still alive! Which is the greatest blessing we can hope for.

Nice! Now I understand your interest in testing for randomness (if you remember our discussion on entropy). It's so nice to see new initiatives on HIVE! Wish you all the best, and good luck to every player!

Hackmaster as the first. Oof, no wonder you like building munchkin characters. That game was all about min-maxing jokes and satire.

I'm not alone, there are a few of us cli wizards left in the world, but it's a dying species...

When I started, min-maxxing was the game hahahaha

People like to play such games a lot, but what I want to say here is that things that give quick profits also cause losses just as quickly in the future, so gambling should not be done.
