El día ha estado movidito, pues hemos realizado una cosecha adelantada de nuestras lechosas que empezaban a ser atacadas por algún animal, lo que resulta un poco extraño porque aún están muy verdes, pero hemos decidido recogerlas así y hacer un rico dulce.
Aunque la lechosa crece en casi cualquier suelo es muy susceptible a las plagas y sus hojas tiernas son el platillo favorito de algunas aves. Obviamente, si un pajarito se come cada nuevo brote, la planta no podrá desarrollarse bien.
Cuando nos mudamos a esta casa (hace 20 años) tuvimos un gran sembradío de lechosas con una muy buena producción, la tierra estaba muy rica en nutrientes y todo lo que sembramos se dio muy bien, pero después de eso con el tiempo y las múltiples cosechas, la tierra se ha ido agotando.
Con la lechosa pasa algo muy curioso y es que se nos ha complicado conseguir buenas semillas y por alguna razón solo resisten las plantas macho. Desde mi experiencia, lo ideal para las plantaciones de lechosa es que las plantas sean hermafroditas, pues son estas las que me han dado mejores cosechas.
Después de muchos intentos fallidos, dejamos de intentar, pero esta plantita de lechosa nació solita. Quizá la semilla la trajo algún pajarito desde otro lugar o como en casa todo se composta, quizá estuviera por ahí esperando un buen momento para nacer. La cosa es que creció y creció y antes de darnos cuenta ya estaba llena de frutas.
Hacer dulce de lechosa, me trae lindos recuerdos, me lleva a la época en la que empezaron a llamarme "La Dulce Crucita", época en la que todos, en familia, fabricábamos dulces, comidas y ron con ponsigué, para venderlos y sustentarnos. Un diciembre llegamos a preparar hasta 500 envases de dulce de lechosa, pues los encargos eran muchos.
Tanto mi esposo como mis hijos participaban del proceso; desde la selección de las frutas, hasta la distribución del producto. Esa época me enseñó que no importa lo difícil que esté la situación siempre hay un camino, una salida, una oportunidad; que Dios cuida de nosotros, pero uno debe estar dispuesto a trabajar y a esforzarse. Siempre hemos sido una familia muy unida y trabajadora, por lo que siempre me he sentido bendecida y agradecida.

Making papaya candy brings back beautiful memories, it takes me back to the time when they began to call me "La Dulce Crucita", a time when everyone, as a family, made sweets, foods and rum with ponsigué, to sell them and sustain ourselves. You informed that nowadays your land is exhausted. I am saying from Bangladesh. In our country we follow cropping pattern. In this cropping pattern here one cereal crop has been taken and one leguminous crop must be taken and one another crop.we have three season and three crop is grown in three season. Here leguminous crops helps to fixation of nitrogen which is good for soil health.
