Este año me he propuesto enfocarme en mí misma, en mi amor propio, y por eso quería regalarme un día especial, diferente; no quería ir a clases, no quería ver a nadie más, solo quería hacer algo por mí, que me hiciera sentir bien, porque últimamente no lo he estado.
Y la oportunidad se presentó gracias a mi madre. Ella es profesora de matemáticas, y el colegio donde trabaja (que, curiosamente, es el mismo donde estudié mi primaria y bachillerato) tenía programado para el 14 de febrero un viaje escolar, para los alumnos de tercer año de bachillerato, al famoso Teatro Juares de Barquisimeto para ver una de las más grandes obras de William Shakespeare, la trágica y romántica historia de Romeo y Julieta. Así que cuando me invitaron a acompañarlos me emocioné, era justo lo que buscaba para este día.

To be honest, I think every day is perfect to celebrate the existence of our loved ones, we don't need a specific day to remind others how much we love them. However, I will also be honest in saying that I love this celebration, I know, it's a totally commercial day, but what beautiful vibes are felt today. There is no doubt that love is in the air 🥺.
This year I set out to focus on me, on my self-love, and that's why I wanted to treat myself to a special, different day; I didn't want to go to class, I didn't want to see anyone else, I just wanted to do something for me, that would make me feel good, because lately I haven't been.
And the opportunity presented itself thanks to my mother. She is a math teacher, and the school where she works (which, curiously, is the same one where I studied my elementary and high school) had scheduled for February 14 a school trip, for third year high school students, to the famous Juares Theater in Barquisimeto to see one of the greatest plays of William Shakespeare, the tragic and romantic story of Romeo and Juliet. So when I was invited to accompany them I was thrilled, it was just what I was looking for this day.

The field trip started at 8:30 am. That was the agreed time for all the students to be at school on time, since two buses would pass by looking for us to take us to the theater. In my student days I didn't get a ride, so I took this opportunity as the ride they owed me, however, I will always be delighted with my school, and because my mom works there I have visited several times.

Antes de la presentación nos dieron una visita guiada por todo el espacio del Teatro Juares, y me encantaría compartirlo con ustedes. Al entrar por la puerta principal te encuentras con la antesala, la cual presenta una hermosa decoración al estilo francés, con detalles románticos y elegantes, y espejos en el techo que da la ilusión de un espacio más amplio. Esta es una de las dos áreas del teatro con mayor antigüedad (con más de 130 años) debido a que solo ha tenido una remodelación, y fue hecha como consecuencia de un antiguo incendio que destruyó la mayor parte del teatro.
Before the presentation, we were given a guided tour of the entire space of the Juares Theater, and I would love to share it with you. Upon entering through the main door you find the anteroom, which has a beautiful French style decoration, with romantic and elegant details, and mirrors on the ceiling that gives the illusion of a larger space. This is one of the two oldest areas of the theater (over 130 years old) because it has had only one remodeling, and it was done as a consequence of an old fire that destroyed most of the theater.

Después visitamos los balcones VIP, son dos y se encuentran a los lados del palco presidencial. Más tarde subimos a la galería, la parte más alta de la sala del teatro, nos comentaron que estaba aproximadamente a 25 metros de altura😬 Esta es la segunda área con más antigüedad del Teatro Juares, y además, tiene varios pasadizos.

Then we visited the presidential box, which is four meters high above the theater hall and has the best view of the stage, important people have sat there, so we felt privileged 😂 the most interesting thing, is that at the back and at the corner there are two seats for the escorts.
We then visited the VIP balconies, there are two of them, and they are located on the sides of the presidential box. Later we went up to the gallery, the highest part of the theater hall, we were told that it was approximately 25 meters high😬 This is the second-oldest area of the Juares Theater, and it also has several passages.

La última parte del tour fue en el Salón de los Espejos, como lo indica su nombre, hay un montón de espejos cubriendo las paredes del salón; nos explicaron que aquí se reunían personas importantes para tomar las decisiones del Estado, debido a que en aquellos tiempos, cuando se construyó el teatro, la política del país era diferente a la actual y cada Estado contaba con un representante que se encargaba de su gobernación; y era este salón el lugar de reunión de dicha persona, Aquilino Juares, encargado de llevar a cabo la construcción de este teatro, el cual en la actualidad lleva su nombre.
También es importante mencionar que anteriormente se consideraba este teatro como parte de la élite del estado, sin embargo, se reconoce que como patrimonio cultural todos deben tener la oportunidad de visitarlo.
Al salir de este salón pasamos rápidamente por el lugar donde se encuentran los camerinos de los artistas, y finalmente llegamos a la sala principal del teatro, donde nos íbamos a sentar para apreciar la obra de Romeo y Julieta.
The last part of the tour was in the Hall of Mirrors, as its name indicates, there are a lot of mirrors covering the walls of the hall; they explained to us that important people used to meet here to make the decisions of the State, because in those times, when the theater was built, the politics of the country was different from today and each State had a representative who was in charge of its government; and this hall was the meeting place of that person, Aquilino Juares, in charge of carrying out the construction of this theater, which currently bears his name.
It is also important to mention that previously this theater was considered part of the elite of the state, however, it is recognized that as cultural heritage everyone should have the opportunity to visit it.
After leaving this hall we quickly passed by the place where the dressing rooms of the artists are located, and finally we arrived at the main hall of the theater, where we were going to sit to appreciate the play Romeo and Juliet.

Ahora sí, lo más esperado del día, el romance trágico de los queridos Romeo y Julieta. Hace años atrás había leído esta obra de Shakespeare, fue la primera y única lectura que hice de ese estilo (prefiero las novelas de ficción), pero era tan reconocida que no pude resistirme a leerla. Tengo varios comentarios sobre la obra original, como por ejemplo: "¡eran unos niños, y todo sucedió en unos pocos días!", pero bueno, ¿quiénes somos nosotros para criticar los romances juveniles de la antigüedad? 🤭 Quizás si aún viviéramos con esa misma pasión e ilusión los romances actuales serían más alegres.
En fin, si por casualidad no conoces a estos amantes, te voy a resumir un poco su historia. Romeo Montesco y Julieta Capuleto son dos adolescentes de Verona, Italia, hijos únicos de las más privilegiadas familias, sin embargo, ambas familias son enemigos mortales. Por cosas del destino, Romeo y Julieta se conocen en una fiesta de los Capuleto, donde Romeo y sus amigos se infiltraron para buscar a la chica que "tenía el corazón" de Romeo, pero cuando él ve por primera vez a Julieta se olvida de esa pobre chica y cae completamente enamorado de la hija de los Capuleto; ¡y lo mismo sucede con Julieta! Después de conocer a su Romeo, no habría nada en el mundo que pudiera detener su amor.

Now, the most anticipated of the day, the tragic romance of the beloved Romeo and Juliet. Years ago I had read this play by Shakespeare, it was the first and only reading I did of that style (I prefer fiction novels), but it was so well known that I could not resist reading it. I have several comments about the original play, such as "they were kids, and it all happened in a few days!", but hey, who are we to criticize juvenile romances of antiquity? 🤭 Maybe if we still lived with that same passion and illusion, the current romances would be more joyful.
Anyway, if by any chance you don't know these lovers, I'm going to summarize a bit of their story. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are two teenagers from Verona, Italy, only children of the most privileged families, however, both families are mortal enemies. As fate would have it, Romeo and Juliet meet at a Capulet party, where Romeo and his friends infiltrated to look for the girl who "had Romeo's heart", but when he sees Juliet for the first time he forgets about that poor girl and falls completely in love with the Capulet daughter; and so does Juliet! After meeting her Romeo, there would be nothing in the world that could stop their love.
As I mentioned, the whole story happens in less than a week, they get married despite knowing the conflict that exists between both families, some people die, Romeo was banished for murdering someone, Juliet cries a lot... and spoiler! There is no happy ending, after all, they will always be known as the tragic lovers.
Tengo que felicitar a los actores y a toda la fundación porque la obra estuvo muy hermosa, me hizo reír y también me hizo ponerme triste; el vestuario, la iluminación, el sonido, la decoración... toda la escenografía en general, estuvo completamente hermosa. Siempre te mantienes enfocado en la historia, no hay momentos aburridos, disfrutas cada escena, y sales enamorado del teatro. Los actores fueron sumamente talentosos, sentías cada emoción que querían transmitir a la audiencia, y les deseo gran éxito en sus carreras💖
Una de las escenas que más esperaba era la escena del balcón de Julieta, donde ella habla sola sobre su amor y Romeo la escucha, luego él sube al balcón para encontrarse con su amada, y allí se confiesan amor eterno. Fue maravilloso verlo actuado, la manera en que se expresaban (tal como la obra) me derritió el corazón, ¿qué les puedo decir? Soy una romántica.
I have to congratulate the actors and the entire foundation because the play was very beautiful, it made me laugh, and it also made me sad; the costumes, the lighting, the sound, the decoration... all the scenery in general, was completely beautiful. You always stay focused on the story, there are no dull moments, you enjoy every scene, and you leave the theater in love. The actors were extremely talented, you felt every emotion they wanted to convey to the audience, and I wish them great success in their careers💖.
One of the scenes I was most looking forward to was Juliet's balcony scene, where she talks alone about her love and Romeo listens to her, then he goes up to the balcony to meet his beloved, and there they confess eternal love. It was wonderful to see it acted, the way they expressed themselves (just like the play) melted my heart, what can I tell you? I'm a romantic.

Encontrar a la persona indicada para luego perderla, y especialmente perderla en tus brazos, sin poder hacer nada, ¡qué frustración! ¡qué tristeza!
Pero así funciona el destino de esta obra, y los actores realmente supieron como transmitir cada una de esas emociones🥺

The final scene was just as I pictured it in my mind.
Romeo and Juliet at the tomb, making the decision not to continue with a life without the other by their side, it's such a dramatic scene and full of emotions; that moment was wonderful (in the play, obviously😂), it's possible that a tear ran down my cheek, because it really is sad, him thinking she was really dead, and her waking up to see her Romeo agonizing in her arms, a last kiss... all that breaks your heart. To find the right person only to lose her, and especially to lose her in your arms, helplessly, how frustrating, how sad!
But that's how fate works in this play, and the actors really knew how to convey each of those emotions🥺

Hubo algunos cambios pequeños, por ejemplo, el momento del lecho nupcial, los actores protagonistas realizaron un baile (muy bello) mientras se presentaba una cantante. También hubo momentos muy divertidos, que no recuerdo que estuviesen en la obra, pero todo solo le otorgó mayor emoción.
Algo que me encantó fue que éramos los únicos en la audiencia, y todos los estudiantes prestaron atención y disfrutaron la obra, bromearon como cualquier adolescente, pero noté que les gustó y estaban emocionados, en el camino de regreso iban conversando sobre su escena o personaje favorito, lo que les hizo reír, entre otras cosas, y eso me agradó muchísimo.
There were some small changes, for example, the moment of the wedding bed, the main actors performed a dance (very beautiful) while a singer was introduced. There were also some very funny moments, which I don't remember being in the play, but it all just added to the excitement.
Something I loved was that we were the only ones in the audience, and all the students paid attention and enjoyed the play, they joked like any teenager, but I noticed that they liked it and were excited, on the way back they were talking about their favorite scene or character, which made them laugh, among other things, and that pleased me very much.
Al finalizar la obra los autobuses nos volvieron a buscar para dejarnos en el colegio, y así terminó nuestro paseo. Fue mi primera vez en el Teatro Juares, y es maravilloso, está muy bien cuidado, y si tienes la oportunidad de visitarlo algún día, por favor, tienes que ir, sientes que estás en otro lugar.
Es la primera vez que vi una obra de teatro tan bien hecha, en el sentido de la escenografía, porque todo fue muy profesional, no había visto una obra con una producción tan grande como esta. La disfruté desde el principio hasta el final.
Fue un Día de San Valentín diferente, divertido, que quedará en mis recuerdos, me sentí feliz, me reí un montón, y deseo que vengan más días así de maravillosos como en lo que queda de año.

At the end of the play, the buses picked us up again to drop us off at the school, and that was the end of our tour. It was my first time at the Juares Theater, and it is wonderful, it is very well-kept, and if you have the opportunity to visit it someday, please, you have to go, you feel like you are in another place.
It is the first time I saw a play so well done, in the sense of the scenery, because everything was very professional, I had not seen a play with a production as big as this one. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end.
It was a different Valentine's Day, fun, that will remain in my memories, I felt happy, I laughed a lot, and I wish that there will be more wonderful days like this for the rest of the year.
