True Tales - volume 1, Amish Paradise - (Supermarket edition)

I will preface this with the fact that I love people - all kinds of people - and love the diversity that I encounter on a daily basis.

When working in the supermarket in Northern Wisconsin, it was a frequent occurrence that a member of the Amish community would come in. I loved having them come through my line.

One day, I noticed a young Amish man going through the lane behind me.

Very inappropriately, my brain started playing "Amish Paradise" by Weird Al Yankovic! (Have a listen/watch if you don't know the song/video...)

I felt very awkward, thankful the young man was unlikely to have any idea what I was thinking about!

I would love to know what the Amish think about this song. Do they laugh at the song? Do they hate it? I would be way too afraid to ask, not wishing to cause offense!

I often wondered how they felt going from a low-tech farmstead into a modern supermarket with all the bright lights and loud noises... It couldn't be much fun, for sure!

In the community, however, the Amish were very much treasured citizens and always given the best treatment.

This is a freewrite of experiences in my worklife. No real names are used to protect both the guilty and the innocent.
