Here’s a look at what we enjoyed for our home-cooked meal.
Ginataang Tuna with Pechay and Eggplant was the main dish. It’s a simple meal with creamy gata that makes the food taste really good.
The way I cooked:
I started by sautéing ginger, garlic, onion, and tomato until they smelled good.
Then I poured in the coconut milk and let it simmer.
I seasoned it with ground pepper and a little shrimp paste.
I added the eggplant and green chilies, followed by the tuna slices.
Before turning off the heat, I placed the pechay and a few red chilies on top.
The result was a creamy and tasty dish best paired with hot rice.
*Ingredients:
Tuna steak slices – 350g
Pechay – 150g
Eggplant – 120g, sliced
Coconut milk – 400g
Red onion – 50g, chopped
Garlic – 30g, chopped
Ginger – 25g, chopped
Tomato – 60g, chopped
Green chilies – 10g
Red chili – 5g
Aside from the ginataang tuna, we also had fried fish and plain boiled vegetables on the table. There were okra, eggplant, and fresh tomatoes.
The fried fish gave that crispy flavor, while the boiled vegetables balanced it with a clean and simple taste. For dipping, I just smashed fresh tomatoes and mixed them with shrimp paste — a classic side that made the meal even better.
It was nothing special, just a regular home meal. But sometimes, these kinds of meals feel the most satisfying — simple food cooked with what’s available, enjoyed at home. I just wanted to share it here, because even ordinary meals deserve a spot in our stories.
