HivePH Updates and Future Community Activities

It’s been a while since this community did any active posts. It’s no surprise that we’ve reached an all time low when it comes to engagement and community activity as a whole. Hive’s price action has been a disappointment and most just lost interest in the quick money within the community. This post will probably get a few readers to bother but writing this with the intention of having it pinned for future users to visit the community page.

The lack of community activity from Filipino users doesn’t bother me at all. This is the product of the mindset built upon from the previous platform that continually seeps into the new forked blockchain.

Things were a lot different back then. You would have new names registering weekly trying to get into the hype train with Steem was trading about $8 USD. You’ll meet all sorts of interesting personalities and the ones that frequently stand can be categorized into two groups, content creators and kiss ups. I’m referring about the dark history the old members of the community just brushed under the rug when they moved over to this blockchain.

The content creators are the ones that really put conscious effort improving blogging niche they’ve focused into. On the other hand, the suck ups were busy spamming tags that have high chances of getting upvotes without putting much work beyond filling their sense of entitlement. The blockchain is a wonderful technology where it lets you visit the unaltered history. It’s the best archive to dig up drama across the platform if you know where to look.

So as soon as the price of the token sunk and the cow people milked dried up, it just went downhill from there. There’s no retaining users that were only chasing prices. As soon as the hype died out, they’ll move to a new platform to chase clout, nothing new, it’s just the market in action. For the users that remained that still thrive, good for you, I hope you still do your best to thrive without putting up a lot of shit posts as your branding. It’s not difficult to know names these days, #hiveph and #philippines tag is a small community tag.

Will be trying to set up a regular curation post schedule in the future. Running this community is a volunteer work. There’s no real incentive to do it, we just do it for a status quo in case new users get onboard and want to take up the mantle, that’d be great. But while fresh blood happens seldom on this platform, we’ll just have to manage with what we have.

The minimum requirement for getting curated is using the #philippines tag. Some exceptions include just having a reputation that you’re a Filipino or Filipino at heart. Not everyone gets an upvote due to limited voting mana or curators having real lives to run that they don’t have time to look at your stuff. We have an internal blacklist to keep names in check. Just follow the basic rules of proper sourcing, mention a post being a repost, and avoid spamming garbage.

Other exceptions for the upvote include the account following some trails. It's a given that there are a lack of users posting so the account may just be sitting at 100% voting mana most of the time. Ideally, upvoting Filipino content should be the priority but when there is a lack of options available, it's best to just spread the rewards to other users on Hive. This account grows from curation too.

I don’t see a point of organizing community contests at the moment. There has to be some rise in activity first to make it feasible. It’s not really a contest if 1 or 2 people show up to make a post. As far as I’m concerned, it’s best to bank on the future of new users to join in the platform for that activity. Because the ones that remained just can’t be bothered to mind.

It’s absurd to ask or compare community engagement with other communities thriving on Hive when the person asking hasn’t even done shit for this community except bitching and filling up their own wallets. It’s even unrealistic to expect this community account to give fat upvotes when most of the user Filipino user base that supports it are inactive, too busy, or cashing out their tokens.

I don’t expect great things to happen anytime soon. At least from what I see the things happening at the time of this writing, but I’ll keep trying to remain active until real life demands caught up with me that I have to be somewhere else.

Interesting post @adamada. This is a realistic post with very real goals. I'm happy that there will be continuation in leadership just to maintain status quo, as you described. I wouldn't mind giving more upvotes to non-Filipino blogposts as long as it doesn't violate community guidelines. It can help increase curation "income" and spread the word about the #philippines and the @hiveph community. I am optimistic about the price of HIVE going up. So, if that is a big reason for the dropout in Pinoy users, then an increase in price might increase the active user base. I'm powering up all my Hive rewards and Leo rewards as of late with the expectation that I'm here for the long term and also because I believe that the value of Hive is less in proportion to the market price today. Hence, the price of HIVE will eventually go up with the right time and conditions. Good luck and have a blast. :)

It's mostly a change of label rather than major changes happening. Maybe some changes in how the curation works on the backend but nothing dramatic. The root problems are low user activity and engagement which is understandable considering our demographics aren't really as committed to this blockchain. They got other blockchains or centralized social media platforms to be occupied with and that's fine.

I just don't like seeing an attitude that they are entitled for some support if they haven't spent some effort on this community. If people did the math on how their tokens can earn them here just by hustling, they'd know what they're missing out. For the ones that remained hustling and spreading out to other communities, they're positioning themselves better for scenarios where the token pumps.

Yeah. It's all good. HIVE is slowly getting back on its feet in terms of price. At 0.17 cents now, the slow and steady rise might just gain momentum sooner than later. In the meantime, I'm here to enjoy posting my stuff and having a front-row seat to watch this sleeping giant (more like a baby giant now) wake up. Someday...

The community goal are realistic and attainable. I definitely agree to this:

I don’t see a point of organizing community contests at the moment.

With low user engagement to the community, it is unrealistic to put up contest with minimal entries. Also, curating content outside the community is a excellent option to grow the account.
