Eugene Torre rose to fame when at the age of 22, he became the Philippines and Asia's first Grandmaster. He achieved this feat in 1974 by winning the silver medal in the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, France. He represented the Philippines in 17 Chess Olympiads the last being in 2016 where at age 65, he won the bronze medal in board 3. Incidentally, Wesley So representing the USA won the gold.

In 1976, Eugene beat then reigning world champion Anatoly Karpov in a tournament in Manila. He scored 4.5 points to win. Other participants were Walter Browne of the USA and Ljubomir Ljubojevic of Yugoslavia.

In the 1980s, Eugene ranked 17th in the world and in 1984 qualified for the Candidates Matches. Unfortunately, he lost to Hungary's Zoltan Ribli by a score of 4-6.

In 1992, Eugene served as Bobby Fischer's second when he faced Boris Spassky in a match in Yugoslavia. In later years, he would develop friendship with Bobby.

In 2021, Fide inducted Eugene into the World Chess Hall of Fame, becoming the first male Asian chess player to be given such honor.

Today, he still serves as coach of the Philippine team and plays in a local professional chess league in the Philippines.

It's a rookie mistake almost everyone makes but as much as possible, mention where you got the links from if you don't own the content. Some people can monetize other people's work without specifically implying they don't own the content their sharing but they get tips for the post. It's still always optional to heed this advice as this is still a decentralized chain where people can post however they want but if you notice why everyone seems to follow this practice, just look at accounts that got downvoted to oblivion.

Hello @iamchessguy
I would like to give you some advice.
It is mandatory to indicate the source of each image individually, as long as they do not all come from a shared source. If you don't do that, sooner or later you will get in trouble up to the invisibility of your posts.

The easiest variant is to insert the link to the source under the image.

It works better if you put the following format under each picture:

[source](link to source)

And welcome to Hive😉

Thank you for the advice. Should I give a link to the general website like:

or

Honestly, little minds and curmudgeons argue about that.
Some say so, others say so.

Some say that you can rely on the respect of copyrights on Wikipedia, others say that, nevertheless, sometimes the naming of the author falls under the table.

In your place I would mark every single picture with its source for two reasons.

  1. it becomes a routine, so much so that you even mark your own pictures with a source.

  2. so you exclude badly programmed bots and overzealous junior detectives as the cause of a downvoting storm.

With regard to your topic, I would also recommend you to what extent text citations are possible. But there I have no idea myself, unfortunately.

I hope I could help a little @iamchessguy

Have fun here on hive and good luck with your blog.

Thank you mate, you helped a lot! Will definitely heed your advise.

You are welcome😀

Indeed, he is a pride for the Filipinos. I find it rare actually, because most of the time I am more on knowing about those Filipino who are famous in sports like Basketball, Volleyball, and weight lifting. Other than that, Filipinos are known for having great singing and dancing talents. Of course, beauty at its finest.

Thank you. We do have a lot of famous people in sports like Manny Pacquiao and Efren Reyes. Also we won our first Olympic gold in weightlifting courtesy of Hidilyn Diaz. Yes, we also love to sing a lot although sometimes singing doesn't like us! 😂

You made me laugh in the last part. Haha. It could be because of our voice ranges my friend.😂

Congratulations!
