Antier en la mañana nos encontrábamos en casa de nuestra hermana y estuvimos conversando luego del desayuno; dado que @stow01 partía a última hora en vuelo hacia Oslo, Noruega y estaba pesando su equipaje para evitar las tarifas por sobrepeso de las maletas, aprovechamos para pesar nuestra humanidad. Sorprendido por haber rebajado dos kilos más desde que bajé del avión procedente de la Argentina, al regresar a casa recordé la colección de camisetas de nuestro equipo favorito de la liga venezolana de béisbol profesional (LVBP): los gloriosos e inmarcesibles Leones del Caracas. Hace mucho tiempo las había dejado de usar, dada nuestra redonda y ancha humanidad; sin embargo, decidí a la luz de la nueva realidad, probarme los jersey del equipo de la capital de Venezuela, de donde soy originario. Y adivinen... ¡Sí! Pude calzarme todos sin ningún problema (incluso algunos nos quedan holgados).

The other morning we were hanging out at our sister’s place, catching up after breakfast. @stow01 was flying out late to Oslo, Norway, and was weighing his bags to dodge those brutal overweight fees—so we figured, hey, let’s weigh ourselves too. Turns out I’d dropped another two kilos since landing back from Argentina. That got me thinking about my old stash of jerseys from our ride-or-die squad in the Venezuelan pro league (LVBP): the legendary, untouchable Leones del Caracas. I’d shelved those beauties ages ago—my frame had gone full infield tarp. But with this new reality, I gave it a shot and tried on the capital’s colors, hometown pride and all. And guess what? Boom. Every single one fit like a charm (some even hang loose now).
Y ¿Por qué les cuento esto? Bueno, digamos no somos dados a coleccionar cosas, pero la cercanía del campeonato 2025-2026 de la liga, además de las prácticas de pretemporada en los estadios, nos ha entregado una excusa para "calentar" lo que comenzará el miércoles 15 de octubre con el partido entre los Tigres de Aragua y los Cardenales de Lara (vigente campeones). La primera camiseta que ven luego de la portada, corresponde a la tradicional para señalar a los felinos como home club. Hace apologia al uniforme de los Yankees de Nueva York (porque es a rayas) y el número anverso que la identifica (olvidé tomar imágenes de ese lado), es el 53 perteneciente al ex-grandeliga de los Filis Bob "comedulce" Abreu. Un jardinero de mucha agilidad y subestimado bate, jugó para el Caracas en sus temporadas de novato y en algunas otras donde ya era estrella del big show. Merecería un lugar en el HOF de las mayores y es posible que lo obtenga, si sigue subiendo en las boletas de lo que será su séptimo intento en 2026.

So why am I even telling you this? Well, let’s just say we’re not big on collecting stuff—but with the 2025–2026 LVBP season right around the corner, and preseason drills lighting up the ballparks, we’ve got the perfect excuse to start warming up. It all kicks off Wednesday, October 15, with the Tigres de Aragua facing off against the reigning champs, Cardenales de Lara. That first jersey you see after the cover? It’s the classic home threads for the Leones. Total homage to the New York Yankees look—pinstripes and all. The front number (which I forgot to snap pics of) is 53, worn by none other than former Phillies slugger Bob “Sweet Tooth” Abreu. Dude was a slick outfielder with sneaky pop in his bat. He suited up for Caracas during his rookie years and came back for a few runs once he was already a big-league star. Honestly, he deserves a spot in Cooperstown. And who knows—he might just get there if his ballot numbers keep climbing in what’ll be his seventh shot in 2026.
La tercera y cuarta imagen, corresponde a camisetas del equipo cuando se encuentra en situación de visitante. La azul, desconozco si se encuentra descontinuada ¿la razón? Tengo mucho tiempo sin ir a los estadios y la idea es sacar a los fanáticos la mayor cantidad de dinero posible. Así las cosas, probablemente sea otra la camiseta oficial de visitante actual. La cuarta imagen pertenece a la camiseta visitante conmemorativa de los 70 años del equipo (cumplidos hace 13 años). Es gris y muy linda a la vista, cuando la mira usted en persona (la cámara no la favorece). La quinta y sexta imagen, corresponden a camisetas usadas por el equipo cuando está calentando en la grama de los estadios antes del juego (éstas también cambian de temporada en temporada). Ignoro a cual condición corresponden, en función de si son home club o visitante. Son muy frescas y elaboradas en una tela más liviana comparada a los otros tres jerseys. La negra es mucho más antigua que la blanca.

The third and fourth pics show the team’s road jerseys. The blue one? No clue if it’s still in rotation. Why? It’s been ages since I hit the ballpark, and let’s be real—teams are out here trying to squeeze every bolívar they can from the fans. So odds are, the official road jersey’s been swapped out. The fourth image features the commemorative away jersey from the squad’s 70th anniversary (which was 13 years ago). It’s a slick gray number—looks even better in person. The fifth and sixth shots are warm-up jerseys, the ones the players wear while stretching out on the grass pregame. These change season to season too. Not sure if they’re tagged for home or away games, but they’re super breathable and made from lighter fabric than the other three. The black one’s definitely older than the white.
Las noticias que se han colado hasta ahora, sobre el campeonato en ciernes: No hay dobles carteleras pautadas (a menos que la lluvia obligue a reprogramar partidos suspendidos), la ronda eliminatoria se extenderá hasta finales de diciembre, el lunes 1° de diciembre se celebrará el "Festival del Jonrón Pepsi", el martes 9 de diciembre se llevará a cabo el "Juego de Estrellas", la serie para definir los comodines se celebrará a partir del 29 de diciembre y el "Round Robin" semifinal dará inicio el 2 de enero. Todavía no hemos conocido el estadio monumental "Simón Bolívar" en Caracas. Construido por el gobierno de turno, es un recinto a la altura de cualquiera en las Grandes Ligas, según nos cuentan mis hermanos quienes residen en Caracas y sí han podido conocerlo. Tenemos como meta ir a uno de los juegos de la temporada que está a punto de comenzar, donde los Leones del Caracas sean home club en aquel coso. Entonces le traeremos noticias de esa visita. Mientras, que suene el grito de guerra de los felinos: "Leeeeeoo..!"

Here’s what’s leaked so far about the upcoming season: no doubleheaders on the schedule (unless rain forces a makeup), the regular round stretches through late December, the “Pepsi Home Run Festival” lands on Monday, December 1, and the “All-Star Game” hits on Tuesday, December 9. The wildcard series kicks off December 29, and the semifinal “Round Robin” gets rolling January 2. We still haven’t set foot in the monumental “Simón Bolívar” Stadium in Caracas. Built by the current administration, it’s reportedly on par with any Major League ballpark—at least that’s what my brothers in Caracas say, and they’ve already scoped it out. Our goal? Catch a game this season with the Leones del Caracas playing as the home club in that new cathedral. We’ll bring you the scoop when that happens. Until then, let the battle cry of the big cats ring out: “Leeeeeoo..!”
