How I started to crochet ...

A few months ago we decided to adopt a kitten and so we're walking in a pet store. I was looking to buy some toys for the little one and then I saw the prices! I thought that for the price I could make it by myself. That would be cheaper and meanwhile I could have fun creating things. So the next stop was at a craft store 😂
On Youtube you can easily find tutorials on how to start and I wanted to create amigurumi toys for my cat.

So I started with a simple fish ... Well I thought it would be simple. Okay, with a lot of imagination you could tell it was a fish 😉 But I did some more research on reading the patterns and I learned by doing some more. The second one was already a bit better and like always, practice does the trick!

This is newly discovered species of fish!

To practice a bit more, I made a mini pillow, stuffed with catnip and a lot of loose threads arounds it. This is a very easy thing to start with to learn to make the same stitches. He loves it because the threads trigger him a lot.

Later on I made another one, more tube like and with some fluffy cotton. And of course he wants to help me while I'm busy 😂

And I love crochet. The next project was to make some mouses for him. I made a small and a big one. Now that he's 4 months old he drags them all over the place. So I think he likes them.
For the most amigurumi's you need to start with a magic ring and I needed some practice before I got it right. There are two ways and the first one was a bit hard. Later on I discovered another way and this was much easier.

Bocola and his best friend.

While looking for amigurumi's on the internet, I found a million things. The best ones I bookmark for later use. So now we introduce him to sea animals. I made a couple of octopuses and hang them up in several places. He loves to play with the tentacles.

One of the latest animals I made was a little crab. But Bocola doesn't show much interest in it. Anyway, I had a lot of fun making it and he as well!

Making a crabby together.

And now the last one. It's not fully complete yet as I need to make 2 more legs.

As you can see I use eyes to give them a cuter look. Make sure to use safety eyes if you plan to give the animals to your kids or pets.

My hubby always jokes with me when I'm doing crochet. He says: "yeah, you're right not giving 12 euro to a toy and making it yourself. You're already spend more than 100 euro on materials and tools. What a profit!" But on the other hand he likes the creations and meanwhile I can't do any harm 😂

So that's it for today. I hope you liked the post and maybe you got some inspiration as well.

Some of the resources I used to get started:
Basic stitches:

Magic ring:

And this one was the best for me. I know .. It's a guide for kids!

I can make an endless list here, but if you look on the internet you'll find one that suits you. And sometimes it can be unclear of what to do, don't let that stop you, look on for another tutorial!

Stay paw-sitive! 😽

I read the rules, but unfortunately I only had the ones I finished. I just wanted to give others an impression of what is possible. That's the reason I put the links at the end. In the future I will make pictures during the process. No problem for me if this is an invalid entry, I just wanted to show some toys my love likes and that I made myself.

Hi, I am glad to read this post.
It never occurred to me to knit for Salomon while he lived with us, he was too still a cat, maybe this kind of toys would have energized him a bit. Thank you so much for leaving inspiring ideas.

Thanks for your reply It feels good to know that people get inspired by reading stuff from others. If you plan to start crochet yourself, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!

I also made an amigurumi mouse toy for my cat, this type of material is great for them to play with. your amigurumis are very cute 😊

Thank you for your kind reply. My cat loves them!

It's great all these beautiful things you made. I really like them and for the cats they must be a marvel, because they must have a lot of fun destroying them hahaha.

It would have been great to see the creative process of these crafts.

From now on I will take pictures while making some toys. 😀

que consentido esta ese gatito jeejejeje que bueno que es tu compañia para tejer.❤️

Jajajaja... Mi gatito está un poco mimado, pero se lo merece 😉

Hello! I love your post! Altrough do amigurumis with a cat around most be a extreme sport haha I do hand embroidery and almost have to wait until my cats are sleep to do it, usually Agatha is the most psyco really psyco with threads and that kind of stuff. Hugs and success for u and your kitten!

Hahahaha ... I know what you mean. In the beginning it was okay, but now as soon as he sees a thread he goes crazy. Within seconds he bites the tread. So now I only do it when he's sleeping. Life with a cat can be challenging!

Definitely! They play furiously w the most ramdom thing haha thats the magic of cats, they always surprise us 😻
