On Buying Books / Vom Bücherkauf
Ich liebe Bücher - sie in den Händen zu halten, sie zu öffnen, den Geruch von neuen oder alten Büchern. Ich liebe es, jede Seite umzublättern, weil ich neugierig bin, was als nächstes passiert, was ich auf der nächsten Seite lernen werde.
I like books - holding them in my hands, opening them, the smell of new or old books. I love turning each page because I'm curious what will happen next, what I will learn on the next page.
Es gibt jedoch einschränkende Faktoren: Einer davon ist der Platz - mein Bücherregal ist voll und ich habe eine strikte "Neues Buch kommt erst dann in die Wohnung, wenn ein anderes geht" Regel. Der andere sind die Kosten. Daher kaufe ich oft gebrauchte Bücher - sie sind preiswert und meist in sehr gutem Zustand. Auf eine Weise unterstütze ich damit auch die Verlagsbranche: Wenn wir wissen, dass wir unsere alten Bücher verkaufen können, neigen wir dazu, mehr neue Bücher zu kaufen ;)
But there are limiting factors: one being space - my bookshelf is full and I have a strict "new book in only when another goes" policy. The other being the cost. I often buy used books - they are cheaper and mostly in very good condition. In a way that supports the publishing industry: if people know they can sell their old books they tend to buy more new ones ;)
An Interesting Find / Ein interessanter Fund
Ich liebe auch E-Books, insbesondere für Sachbücher. Sie sind 'mobil', man kann in ihnen suchen oder Teile davon kopieren - z. B. ein Rezept aus einem Kochbuch oder die Erklärung einer Regel aus einem Rollenspiel-Regelwerk.
I love e-books, too, especially for non-fiction. They're portable, you can search in them or copy parts of them - like a recipe from a cooking book or the explanation of a rule from a tabletop roleplaying book.
Also bin ich regelmäßig auf der Jagd nach erschwinglichen E-Books. Viele von ihnen sind zwar billig, aber nicht preiswert. Nicht viel Inhalt von wechselhafter Qualität - man muss viel Geduld und eine Spürnase haben, um Bücher zu finden, die wirklich ihren Preis wert sind. Ich kaufe E-Books mit wenig Seiten, wenn sie gut gemacht sind - besser 30 Seiten über etwas, das mich interessiert, als gar keine ;)
So I do hunt for affordable e-books, though most of them are low-prized because, well, they are cheap in the "of low worth, of poor quality"-meaning of the word. Not much content of debatable quality - you have to have a lot of patience and a good nose to find exceptional ones. I do buy short ones when they are well-made - better 30 pages about something I'm interested in than none ;)
Neulich stolperte ich über ein E-Book über das Weben, das für etwa 1/10 des normalen Preises angeboten wurde. Nachdem ich es gekauft hatte, recherchierte ich ein wenig und fand heraus, dass der Storey-Verlag jeden Monat einige seiner E-Books für $3 anbietet! Ihr Motto dafür: "Lerne jeden Monat etwas Kreatives!" Sie sind bei den führenden Online-Buchhändlern zukaufen. Ich habe die Seite sofort mit einem Lesezeichen versehen - diese Angebote were ich mir regelmäßig ansehen :) Nun zu dem Buch, das ich gekauft habe, und anderen, die ich interessant fand:
The other day I stumbled upon an e-book about weaving which was on offer for about 1/10 of the normal prize. After buying it I did a bit of research and found that each month the publisher Storey offers some of their e-books for $3! Their motto for that: "Learn something creative every month!" You can buy them at the leading online booksellers. I immediately bookmarked the page - you can bet that I will look at their offers regularly :) (They have a "book of the week" for $3.99, too) Now on to the book I bought and others I found interesting:

| Es ist Frühherbst bei uns, die Zeit für Äpfel und alles drum herum. Apfelwein ist an warmen Tagen erfrischend, und ihn warm und gewürzt im Winter zu servieren wärmt mehr als nur den Körper :) (Man kann übrigens auch "Apfelglühsaft" machen - einfach mal ausprobieren!) Main part are the 127 recipes, from apple butter and jam, from salad sauce to side dishes and soups, from main dishes to desserts and drinks. I love books too! And yeah, my shelves are also full. And I can't really come to the decision of giving up any of them. Unless I find someone who would really take care of them more than I did. My latest buy (before the lockdown) was a crocheting book. I had planned on buying more but then...
I also have some ebooks in my collection and yeah, I agree. They're easily accessible and easier to browse through especially if you just want to look for quotes in it.
