A couple of days ago, Felix came in acting strangly, panting with his tongue hanging out etc.. running for no apparent reason (at first.)
I noticed that when he stopped to lick his left forepaw, that triggered the Zoomies, so I looked and found this cut.
I had some Gabapentin (for cats) left from Tommy's neutering, so I gave Felix a very small dose (orally) it seemed to calm him almost immediately
I had to leave for a little while, when I came back I found him thusly
Then for the rest of the evening he would not leave me
Astonishingly, next day his would was no longer raw red, and he was back to normal
Today, it no longer looks red at all.
I learned a new term thru all this, a "Toe Bean" which is that pad which was cut.
I love my babies

I recently adopted a cat and I can imagine the freak out I'll have if something like this happened. You seem to have handled it very calmly, like it's an everyday thing haha. Clearly you're an experienced cat dad ❤️
Well yes @yugadi, I've had cats most of my life, but for the last 20+ yrs the places I've lived wouldn't allow pets. I've had to get used to a brave new world with diseases and vaccinations that I'd never heard of.
I am not falling down that rabbit hole tho, I grew up IN THE WOODS, we had house cats (came and went as they pleased as long as one of us would let them in or out) and yard dogs, that only came inside in extreme weather or illness.
I love my pets, but I'm not gonna spend more on vet bills than I do on MY medical care
Whenever animals are kept, they have to be protected a lot, especially when they fight among themselves, which is when such injuries occur.
"Toe Bean" is a new term to me, too. I'm happy to hear that the nasty cut is healing quickly! That is a relief for both you and the kitty! 💞
It sure was a relief @thekittygirl, thanks for commenting
I am glad that problem was easily solved! I recently took our cat to the vet because he had odd red spots in front of his ears. They seemed to come and go. I never saw him scratch at them, but he would shake his head as if his ears felt odd. He doesn't have ear mites, and the best the vet could come up with is he must be allergic to something. So he has drops for his ears now. He disapproves of them, of course.
Good Morning @scribblinggramma, my cats both do the ear flick thing, Tommy (the yellow tabby) has a big problem with mosquitoes, which cause red bumps, scabby places, but he doesn't scratch at them either.
Felix doesn't seem to have this problem
Thanks for commenting
Hmmm, I hadn't considered mosquitoes. But ours vanished within the past 2-3 weeks. I think it got too dry for them to hang around.
I think "toe bean" is a slang term for the pads whether injured or not.
I gathered that when I googled Toe Bean, I had just never heard that term before in the many years I have lived with a cat
Thanks for commenting @jacobtothe ...(jacobtothe the what?) 😀
