Whiskey world is a miraculous and adventurous place and Scotch spirits definitely make it quite various. Sometimes I tend to go and buy single malt whiskeys to enjoy at family celebrations, but never before tried a product of this distillery.
A couple of times I decide to grab a bottle of Arran whiskey for a gift to friends for various occasions and I was eager ot try one myself. Now the time has come and I am enjoying a bottle of the 10 y.o. malt.
The bottle cost about $40 which was putting this liquor at the 12 y.o. Glenfiddich and other similar products, which is a relatively cheap price for a bottle of good quality Single
Malt Scotch whiskey.
The box looks interesting and quite artistic with this almost pergament like texture and color. I like the stamp like image of two birds and a distillery tower, which gives the Arran whisky a distinctive style.
Also, on the bottom half of the box it is suggested that this bottle keeps whiskey that will taste very rich and honeyed. Also we should be able to find citrus fruit freshness and hazelnuts in the different layers of this fine malt.
Inside the box you will find quite an interedting bottle. I like its shape and form which looks a bit vintage and old. The imagination easily brings me somewhere in the early 1900s in a little and tidy family distillery and especially their shop where you will find a generous amount of different whiskeys.
The coordinates that are found on the labels and on the cork plug bring you on the north shore of the Isle of Arran, where the Lochranza Distillery is. That is the place where this whiskey is born and then matured in fine Oak barrels. The plug itself is relatively bigger in size which gives the bottle some bulkiness and massive look.
In the glass you can only admire the natural color of the spirit, but after all I am here for the tasting, som let’s proceed to the next step quickly. I really cannot wait to take the first sip of this golden liquor.
In the nose the citrus freshness is easily felt and it combines the fruitiness with some honey and herbal notes. It feels a bit like a lemon juice too.
The taste brings you even more complexity. First there is this Sherry cask vanilla flavor, then comes some sugar like and honey sweetness. The wood taste is definitely present. The finish is moderate lasting, but here you find some additional layers of the maltiness and a bit of spiciness. The alcohol feel is not that intense, although this whiskey comes at 46% abv.
Honestly, I didn’t expect such a quality in this product. I expect this level of complexity from a bit higher priced and more mature whiskeys that are on the market today, so this one really surprised me quite pleasantly.
I tend to like a lot what I see from this product and cannot wait to grab another bottle of their lineup soon. If their younger malts is that solid, I cannot imagine what will the higher age product bring to me.
I strongly reccomend yoi to grab a bottle of this, if you find one in the liquor stores around you. Every penny will be worth giving for a product like the ARRAN 10 y.o. Scotch whiskey.
Thats for today, see you soon and have a beautiful day!
Cheers!
Hi @mdosev
Welcome to the Amazing Drinks community!
We see that you have brought us an interesting post, with which we make with you, a sensory journey to experience the tasting of this interesting whisky. You really describe all aspects of this drink very well, from its case, its bottle, cork, and obviously its content. Beautiful photos, beautiful words in your post.
However, we invite you to read our community rules, in which we require that our users must appear in at least three photos of the post, either making their recipes or showing their drink reviews.
Greetings.
Now I see that, sorry for not reading the exact guidelines then. I just found this community and decided it was a proper place to share my reviews. I’ll try to add some photos of me and fix that.
Ok, now I added three more photos including myself, hope that will fix the situation.
Ohhh, so cool! Nice to meet you @mdosev
Thanks!
Fantastic write up and I like the selfies which show PoW (Proof of Whisky) :OD
I think I will grab a bottle myself as I haven't tried this one!
First of all, thanks for visiting my post. POW is always required for a good and quality stuff as this one. I am definitely a fan of ARRAN now. Surpassed my expectations. Now I can’t wait to grab one of the “older” brothers.
Cheers!
Its a lovely little island, I seem to have missed it out on the Whisky front but I will be fixing that!
Cheers to you!

Ciao @mdosev - it's good to know that the Arran Distillery's products are reaching around the world and getting such positive reviews! I'm from High Corrie on the island - just the other side of the hills from Lochranza, and grew up on the island. :-) It's a magical place, and has incredible wild waters all around it - some of the cleanest, vital and most blessed waters in the world, as all the islands on the west coast of Scotland get the benefit of cleaned weather systems that come across the Atlantic. Enjoy your whisky, agus slàinte mhath!
Thanks for the nice comment! I can only imagine the beauty of this island. Maybe sometime I will be able to make a whisky tour around Scotland. It would be great! And yes, the Arran products seem to be excellent and I’m happy that they are delivered here in Bulgaria too!
Yes! I highly recommend visiting, @mdosev ! It is often referred to as 'Scotland in miniature' because it contains a lot of the aspects of the country, all contained within a space that is easy to explore: glens, mountains, beaches, lochs, rivers, woods, castles... It is easy to get to from Glasgow, and a very hospitable place. Quite expensive though: one of the reasons I live in rural Italy instead of my home island!
Good wishes :-D
Sounds like a good one. I shared this to the whisky/whiskey community where some more people commented. The Scots tend to spell it as whisky without an e.
Enjoy!
Yup, I know about the whisky/whiskey variations. Maybe next time I’ll post straight into the Whisky community!
Thanks for the support.
You can always cross-post it there. We have a few fans of a dram there. I had a glass of Glenlivet last night.
