This one is my favorite drink, and it's absolutely delicious. I used to buy this drink at the drink stand when I lived in downtown Banda Aceh. The original flavor of this drink was my favorite of all the flavors. Now when I go back to my hometown, I almost never see anyone selling thai tea drinks in my area. Perhaps, it is constrained by the ingredients or the lack of market interest so that the seller does not open a branch outlet in our area.

Of course it's been about 5 years since I've enjoyed this drink again. And now this drink is very much missed especially enjoyed during the summer. I thought it would be a great choice to enjoy while relaxing at home. Trying it myself with a recipe from the internet made me have to try it, but the difficulty was finding Thai tea. And as it is only found in online stores, I didn't want to wait any longer so I tried it with pure tea at home. I love that this tea is shaped like crumbled tea leaves so it has to be brewed and filtered before it can be enjoyed.

Here I will take you through the step-by-step preparation of my homemade version of Thai tea.

Ingredients Used

  • 250 ml liquid milk
  • 2 tablespoons tea
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

For liquid milk, use any brand of full cream liquid milk. We recommend using non-vegan full cream milk for better results. For tea, I recommend that you use tea like I use, don't use bagged powdered tea.

Preparation Procedure

Put the tea in a pot, then add sugar.

Then cook until it caramelizes like I did above. Don't forget to stir at this stage and use low heat to avoid burning.

Once everything is dissolved and the caramel starts to get pretty, add the full cream milk. Then cook until it comes to a boil.

Finally, once it's slightly warm, strain the Thai tea so that the pulp doesn't get carried over into the drink.

Serving thai tea in a serving glass, I added ice cubes to the glass and poured my thai tea. It was so nice that the thai tea was served perfectly. And no doubt at all the thai tea was very tasty, creamy and very fatty. Almost similar to the original thai tea I tried first but I noticed their thai tea is more orange maybe the caramel from them is cooked even thicker. Of course, the flame must be very small for maximum results.

Well for those of you who love this delicious drink, try making it yourself at home. Very easy of course with ingredients that are very easy for you to get.
