It's a bright morning.
John wakes up feeling motivated. He's got plans for the day and he hopes everything is going to run smoothly. Unfortunately for him, life seems to have plans of its own.
His car breaks down on the road and he arrives late to work. He struggles with his duties trying to make up for lost time, hoping to meet a deadline with a client.
After hours of backbreaking work and preparation, his client calls to inform him that their meeting has been rescheduled. An entire day of work goes down the drain with nothing to show for it.
John goes home dejected and is about to dive into bed with his sorrows when he spots his piano in the corner. He hasn't played lately but he can feel it calling to him.
He listens to the call and plays a tune. The melody loosens him up and he pours out his frustrations on the keys. After a couple minutes he's feeling better than he was when he came in.
He puts a smile on his face knowing that he'll at least go to bed with a pleasant memory.
Truthfully, this little story above could apply to anyone one of us. Just like John we often have days where life seems to be against us.
Days where nothing seems to work out and you feel like throwing in the towel, and just like John a little bit of zen in our lives can help one stay sane in those trying times.
There are multiple definitions out there but mine is very simple.
Zen = Balance
I believe zen is anything that brings balance to your life. Something that motivates you when you're feeling down. Something that sets your head straight when your world is spinning.
A little activity that takes your mind away from the worries and anxieties of life, and gives you some much needed peace of mind.
Reading
Writing
Art
Taking walks
Gaming
Movies
Cooking
Etcetera... whatever calms you down can fit into this list really
It's really important to find something to do to keep your life balanced. Else the pressures of life may become overwhelming.
Whatever it is you find, do it with all your heart and may you find zen along the way.
