"FALL FRUIT"
How lucky I was to find some fall fruits in the garden with our fig.
We had an incredibly good fig year this year. This years warm dry and Mediterranean weather seems to be doing it good for them. The 2nd crop was a bit late ripening, as usual, and those plums that didn't make it in time are still hanging and slowly falling to the ground.
These leaves and fruits we leave over the winter lying on the ground, if it should still be a harsh winter with high sub-zero temperatures this can be a very good frost protection for the plant.
Actually, plums are not native to our region, but with a lot of care and winter protection in the first years, the plants can be accustomed to the weather in Styria, so they can survive even a very cold winter well. Ours is very protected on the south side of the house with a small wall next to it, it seems to really love this place.
For many years by now this fig has provided us with delicious fruit, juicy and sweet, to eat or even for jam. Besides, figs are incredibly healthy food, super food for metabolism, skin and hair.
Only in the spring you have to be careful, if there comes a strong late frost when the plant has already sprouted this could damage it.

Was für ein Glück, dass ich im Garten bei unserer Feige fündig wurde.
Wir hatten dieses Jahr ein unglaublich gutes Feigen-Jahr. Das diesjährige warme, trockene und mediterrane Wetter scheinen ihr gut zu bekommen. Die 2. Ernte war wie immer etwas spät reif und diejenigen Pflaumen, die es nicht mehr rechtzeitig geschafft haben hängen noch und fallen langsam zu Boden.
Diese Blätter und Früchte lassen wir über den Winter liegen, falls es doch noch ein strenger Winter mit hohen Minustemperaturen werden sollte ist das ein sehr guter Frostschutz für die Pflanze.
Eigentlich sind Pflaumen bei uns nicht heimisch, aber mit viel Pflege und Winterschutz in den ersten Jahren kann man die Pflanzen an das Wetter in der Steiermark gewöhnen, sodass sie auch einen sehr kalten Winter gut überstehen. Unsere steht sehr geschützt auf der Südseite des Hauses mit einer kleinen Mauer daneben, diesen Platz scheint sie wirklich zu lieben.
So liefert uns diese Feige schon seit vielen Jahren leckere Früchte, saftig und süß, zum essen oder auch für Marmelade. Außerdem sind Feigen unglaublich gesunde Nahrungsmittel, Super Food für Stoffwechsel, Haut und Haare.
Einzig im Frühjahr muss man aufpassen, wenn da noch ein starker später Frost kommt wenn die Pflanze schon ausgetrieben hat kann ihr das Schaden zufügen.

Ein Feigenbaum fehlt noch bei mir im Garten. Euer Klima ist in Graz aber auch etwas milder, oder? Wieder sehr schöne Fotos.

These figs have a beautiful color ! Ours were not good this year with a late frost at spring, you are right that it does damage the fruits ...😉 Very nice post @beeber !

Oh, ich liebe unseren Feigenbaum auch. Allerdings ist er noch recht klein, hat letzten Winter ziemlich gelitten, die erste Ernte bestand aus zwei Früchten :( Nun hängen bestimmt noch 40 Früchte der zweiten Generation dran, die es nicht mehr geschafft haben, das macht mich richtig traurig. Ich lasse sie aber auch fallen und lege sie mit den Blättern um den Stamm herum für den Winter..
