I spi wid my litil i sometin beginin wid de letter I...
That's possibly how I would have written this sentence as a little girl when my four brothers and I used to play this game:)
I'll start off with the smallest I's and that is
INSECTS
There are estimated to be about 5,5 million different species of Insects worldwide, but I will show you a couple that I managed to snap here at home.
The Dragonfly
This Insect has been around for over 300 million years and is said to be the fastest Insect with speeds of up to 30 miles per hour! They're also able to fly backwards.
Praying Mantis
The front legs of the Praying Mantis makes it look like it is praying, hence the name, but in fact it uses its front legs to capture its prey.
A praying Mantis has 5 eyes and although they also have the same senses as we do, they depend mostly on their amazing sight!
Katydid
Katydid is also called a Leaf Bug, no wonder as it looks like a leaf until you spot the eyes, extra-long antenna and legs! They're also called the Long-horned Grasshopper or Bush Cricket, and are known for their mating calls.
Insects concluded, so let's move on to the next I and that is a very useful metal called...
IRON
Iron Tools of the trade - photos taken during our visit to the Drostdy Museum in Swellendam, Western Cape
Iron is a malleable gray metal used by the Blacksmith who was an essential tradesman for early settlers. He would manufacture Iron parts for farming implements, household utensils and also repair Iron objects.
Iron has to be heated to high temperatures to become malleable and the blacksmith would hammer, bend, cut and shape the Iron using various tools like hammers, anvils, mandrels, chisels and tongs.
Iron baking tins, storage tins, mugs and jugs made in the late 1800's, with the Anvil in the foreground.
The next I is a very precious one called an...
INFANT
My oldest son as an Infant still crawling at this stage. He was a real little character from a very young age with shiny bright eyes that looked and crept straight into one's heart; an Infant that became a very perceptive and super considerate young adult.
All Infants love playing with the following I and licking it off the cake and that of course is...
ICING
I used two different types of Icing here - a glace Icing as well as a creamy Butter Icing decorated with silver baubles
Being an incorrugable foodie my mind of course veered towards foods starting with an I.
A beautifully Iced cookie made with Royal Icing - not by me, I bought this in a home industries shop.
The phrase It was the Icing on the cake speaks for itself; of course we say this when something good becomes even better!
Does anyone remember licking the Icing off the cake as a child?
Having a sweet tooth, I admit doing that more than once:)
Another favourite I with kids and some grown-ups is...
ICE LOLLIES
Licking a frozen summertime treat that's usually sugar laden flavoured water but these were a healthy version made with banana & blueberry nice cream that I froze in molds.
Finally ending off with another Icy theme and that is...
ICE CUBES
What would a tall summery drink be without Ice Cubes?
One can make Ice cubes with just about any liquid to go with whatever drink you're serving. Adding herbs, tiny pieces of fruit, citrus rind or lavender flowers to the ice cube molds is a lovely addition to a jug of Ice-cold water.
And that concludes my Alphabet Hunt - Letter I for this week's fun challenge by the awesome talented artist @barbara-orenya.

Thank you!
You are welcome! They look delicious. 😀
A lovely selection by Incredible Master Chef herself, well done on the letter I was on the look out for what you would settle on, food being one for sure.
Yes all 4 of us lined up to lick spoons and bowls when cakes were baked growing up, price paid was helping wash the dishes 😄when all was said and done.
My brothers were always too busy getting up to mischief outside so I often had the icing bowl all to myself;) Sooo sorry for only now replying!
Life is definitely getting the better of us lately, no so?
I love Leaf Bug
Thank you
Your insect photos are wonderful ..! well, all your photos are great anyway, but these Insects viewed from so close thanks to you, that's very cool !
I always wondered why the man that works the iron is called the Blacksmith, and everytime I meet this word I have to think a few second but who is this Blacksmith as it sounds like a family name..😄
Ooh your Icing...! don't you have no mercy on us ?!??😛 🤤 🤤 🤪
I'm also curious about the name Blacksmith, will have to go ask granny Google! Thank you for this fun challenge and my sincere apologies for only now responding, don't know what happened here! But, better late than never not so;)

.I enjoyed your icing photos -- it is a new word to me! (and yes, i am a cookie-lover, hehe).
but hammers and ice cubes i love most, the real highlights for me. thanks for sharing.
Thank you @qwerrie, do you call it frosting? It's funny how we all have our own words in different parts of the world;)
uh, no, definitely not frosting. i think in Russian there is no single word for this operation :P
it often sounds like: "decorating the (smth) with (smth)..."
or glaze, or cover.
Our American friends call it frosting I believe, so where in Russia are you from @qwerrie?
i am from Moscow (the capital) but left it more than 15yrs for St.Petersburg, it is the north-west part, near the Baltic sea and Finland
My son spent 4 months in Orenburg recently, was actually stuck there for an extra month with no flights available during strict lockdowns, he really enjoyed the time there and stayed with a very kind young Russian couple for the last period. He had a flight stopover in St Petersburg but no time to do sightseeing, then ended up 2 nights in Moscow with flight delays on the way back home. Stay well @qwerrie!
I think I will make some ice cube mint and strawberries to add to my water jug! Your photos are fabulous! Thanks for sharing, @lizelle!
Have a lovely day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙
One can have loads of fun making all kinds of ice cubes for summertime drinks, thanks for popping in and my sincere apologies for the late reply!
Great post - and love the ice cubes - Really make a jug of water super special
Guess what those ice cubes were made for, I took it from an old cookwithus challenge;) Sooo sorry for only responding now @pandamama!
Not a problem at all. That was a lovely challenge - think we should include it next month. Ice creams, desserts and ice-cubes. Wish we could find a sponsor on Hive to bring the competition over here
That is a wonderful selection i especially love the old iron tool that really takes you back in time 👍
That was such an interesting museum, my sincere apologies for the late response!
Thank you @lizelle and no need to apologies we do have many other things in life we need to attend to. Have a great weekend 😊
I love all of your entries @lizelle!! I especially love that first one and the irons but they are all just terrific. You make me want one of those pretty cupcakes though..lol. 😋
