As far as 'abuse' fighting, we have only one other group effort, hive downvote rewards, that I am aware of.
We tried incentivizing downvoting but our dev was taken out by life during the fork and hasn't made it back to complete the transition into the hive.

Do you downvote spam farms and plagiarists?
Follow any downvoting trails?

Sort:

I definitely don't follow any downvote trails, and I definitely won't consider joining any. I am well aware that many innocent accounts get caught up in the crossfire of the anti-spam efforts, and I want no part of that.

As for spam farms, it's a debated topic.
My account @freedumbnews was flagged as a spam farm and now gets downvotes on any post.
It's a news curation project that I've been running on twitter since like 2010, but apparently that kind of content is not allowed here on HIVE (says the authoritarian post-police). In reality, embracing all types of content creation (even short form / link posting) is what's needed to take HIVE to greater heights.

Plagiarists on the other hand, deserve the DVs. Does @cheetah still go around flagging potential stolen content with comment links to the source? Haven't seen that cat around in a while.

Cheetah has withdrawn from the field, I understand she was very expensive to run.

I followed fdn, but that type of content was not popular here with the earliest adopters who saw the space as a long form blogging platform and twitter as mostly spam.
It is what it is.
It will be what we make of it.

I'm waiting for all the defi development to kick in.
Hive-engine is killing it with trading bots and diesel pools.

What would put all this posting drama on the back burner is somebody influential noticing that we have 3sec blocks, no fees, and a dedicated community of users and developers.

@jeffjagoe
You should have been blacklisted altogether when we blacklisted your shitpost spam farm that was trashing the blockchain and farming with hundreds of shit posts and refused to stop for months.

See what I mean @antisocialist? The authoritarian (not just authoritarian, but outright asshole) antics of HWs is seriously constricting HIVE’s potential to engulf the web and be more than just a blogging platform.

Looks like they had this conversation with you.
Until 'the community' disagrees with them, this is what we get.

Though, they do have a point, that was some pretty low effort posting.
If you could show some actual eyes on the post, maybe that would be different, but just spamming newslinks to the chain that nobody is looking at is pretty hard to defend.

Make some real content and be one of us.

“Looks like they had this conversation with you.”
I actually haven’t spoken to them about FDN before. The above comment was their first communication to me regarding the account.

“Until 'the community' disagrees with them, this is what we get.”
In a plutocratic system like this, it doesn’t matter if “the community” disagrees with them it simply just takes one very large stakeholder / or small group of large stakeholders to force a hand, in the same way they use stake to force others to comply with their arbitrary rules.

“Though, they do have a point, that was some pretty low effort posting.”
As stated before, I don’t think HIVE is simply a platform for high-effort, long-form, blog posts. I think it has the potential to encompass all aspects of online content generation. FDN existed on Twitter (with 0 rewards) for 7 years before making an account on the blockchain. As I continue to migrate further and further to using blockchain based social platforms, it made sense to bring FDN along to STEEM/HIVE.

“Make some real content and be one of us”
I make (and have made) loads of “real content” over the years. I advocate for HIVE outside of HIVE, pretty much anywhere I go. If by “be one of us” you mean, be a member of HW or be an authoritative figure on the blockchain that goes around enforcing arbitrary rules, I will definitely take a pass. But if you means “be a member of the HIVE community”, then I’m already there. I’ve attended SteemFest 2,3,4 and the latest HiveFest, I spent an hour on the phone with Ciara Sun (VP of Huobi Global) during last years Steem hardfork trying to get to the bottom of the hostile takeover (and actually managed to get some damning information that might be able to implicate Justin Sun / Tron Foundation / Binance for their actions). Also proud to say that I operate the first store ever to sell HIVE merchandise. I’m certainly part of “the community”... I just have a different idea about the future of Web 3.0 (to me, it’s not only a place for hardcore bloggers)
