I haven't had any luck accessing things through IPFS lately though.

I get either a 429 error message or the page hangs and never loads...

the ipfs.io gateway is mostly overloaded .... if you get this error with ipfs again just try with a different gateway ... https://ipfs.infura.io works great 🙂
