The Flying Dutchman - oil on cardboard
Hello everyone Hivers and welcome back to my blog. Today I return to share my favourite subject, the sea, but with a theatrical variation.
I wanted to depict a scene from Richard Wagner's important opera, The Flying Dutchman in which the captain of a vessel is condemned to sail until doomsday. My choice was to paint a scenic structure with large side wings with two small arched doors, through which the actors enter. On the back wall, I depicted a huge painting with the captain's portrait, because the painting is a symbol of the persistence of memory, in eternity or until its destruction.
Above the painting I painted a glimpse of the ship's helm from which wooden bars emerge.
The parts of the scene I wanted to take care of most are two, the backdrop where I painted a sky between the surreal and the romantic, and the bottom of the captain's portrait where I made a rough sea.

L'olandese volante - olio su cartone
Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi torno a condividere il mio argomento preferito, il mare, ma con una variante teatrale.
Ho voluto rappresentare una scena dell'importante opera lirica di Richard Wagner, l'olandese volante in cui il capitano di un vascello è condannato a navigare fino al giorno del giudizio. La mia scelta è stata quella di dipingere una struttura scenografica con delle grandi quinte laterali con due piccole porte ad arco, da cui entrano gli attori. Sulla parete di fondo ho rappresentato un enorme quadro con il ritratto del capitano, perchè il dipinto è il simbolo della persistenza della memoria, in eterno o fino alla sua distruzione.
Sopra al dipinto ho dipinto uno scorcio del timone della nave da cui emergono delle barre di legno.
Le parti della scena che ho voluto curare di più sono due, il fondale dove ho dipinto un cielo tra il surreale e il romantico, e il basso del ritratto del capitano dove ho realizzato un mare mosso.
